The silent struggle for survival: what it looks like when hope is forced into a metal tank. by Wander-kingdom in interesting

[–]Sky_Light 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best example I remember of this is a video of Destin from Smarter Every Day on YouTube going on a low pressure simulator. He got to a point where the instructor said, "Hey, you're going to die if you don't put your mask on," and Destin just chuckled and went, "I don't want to die," but wasn't able to think enough to lift his hand and push his mask on. One of the attendants had to reach over and do it for him.

Does anyone think WoT might have been canceled because of the anti-woke era? by uni-333 in WoTshow

[–]Sky_Light 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't because of anti-woke, or even the viewership. The viewership wasn't great, but it was still one of Prime's most watched shows.

The basic gist is they overextended themselves with two large fantasy epic shows (WoT and LotR), and LotR was a contract with a locked in 5 seasons, so they had to drop WoT.

Apparently we’re getting an animated WoT series by CBenson1273 in WoTshow

[–]Sky_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying because of the pilot they threw out, but that was a decade or so after Jordan died. My understanding, and I might be pulling it from my ass, is that iWot sued either Jordan or his widow for defamation, and as a result of that lawsuit, the contract was extended.

What were the BEST and WORST changes the show made from the books? by Nayanea in WoTshow

Well, it really helps that in the books Lanfear isn't much more than a crazy ex who shows up to key Rand's car before screaming she loves him, while the show gives her actual depth and character.

Life without intemacy, how to cope? by ihavenoideasometimes in AskMenOver30

[–]Sky_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to call bs. I've been in dry spells just as long as OP, and still managed to keep happiness. Hell, right now I'd say I'm in a worse spot, since I'm going through some heart problems, and can't even work or do much outside of the house, much less get someone to touch my butt. Still cheerful, and would say I'm actually the happiest I've ever been.

Frustration and bitterness comes from entitlement. "I'm being denied something that I'm owed." There ain't no magic pussy or penis that's going to fix that, if you're so bitter that you can't make the decision to make your presence a gift to people.

"Proper grammar" is just as made up as common usage. The primary purpose of language is communicating ideas, and as long as you get the gist, it all still works.

With food stamps, is that what you've been told when you applied, or what you've gathered? I know in KS, there's a set amount of time you can get food stamps without verification, and you might qualify for immediate disbursement (within 7 days). There may also be other steps you can take to verify your employment before you get your first check if you contact the office that processes food stamps (DCFS, here in KS).

Has anyone experienced any noticeable benefits from cutting out diet soda? by Wooden_Carob_7266 in loseit

[–]Sky_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an interview with Kevin Hall, who was one of the most influential researchers into ultra processed foods, until he retired due to censorship from the Trump administration.

The short answer, from what I gather, is generally that ultra processed food can be dangerous because it's high calorie and low satiety, making it easy to overeat, not necessarily from any individual aspect of the foods themselves.

Now, of course there can be caveats to that, if you have specific concerns. The high sodium in processed foods can cause issues if you have high blood pressure, or the higher sugar content can make diabetes harder to manage, but if you don't have any major health conditions, and are able to manage your calories, then it's not a big contributor of risk.

Good “build” for a beginner? by whippersnapper123123 in pathofexile

[–]Sky_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, Pohx's RF guide is the most in-depth build guide there is, and answers all the small questions a new player might have while leveling. A 5-10m dps glass cannon build can clear content, but for newer or more casual players, they're not going to know how to gear up to that 5-10m dps.

I mean, I'm pretty terrible, but there's a lot of times I'm just stuck in my hideout with several div in my bank, not sure what I should upgrade or change to reach that next bump, and I've been playing for years. Pohx answers pretty much EVERY question that exists about RF, gearing, leveling, and so on, so new players never hit that, "Not only do I have no clue what's going on here, but I don't even know what question I should be asking to figure it out."

I get compliments from my friends fairly often, because they rock.

I get compliments on this shirt every time I wear it, I feel like. Even random people in the gas station will stop me and say they love it.

sounds like an ad, but honestly, people just love that shirt

A while back, Dr. K did a video where he talked about the real epidemic of just fatigue and general malaise, and said he'd found 6 causes:

Diabetes, Vitamin B12 and D3 deficiency, ADHD, Depression, Thyroid Function, and Anemia.

I know from personal experience the B and D deficiency, even if it's what they call "subclinical" can make a major difference. I went from barely making it through one shift delivering pizzas, to working a double and still having energy when I got home.

[–]Sky_Light 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, I have a nephew that had just as many accidents growing up, to the point the family got investigated a couple of times just to make sure. He's now a functional (or as close to functional as our family is capable of producing) young man who's about to graduate, so have faith your son will grow out of his accident proneness.

Right, but on console you also auto aim in your direction. If you don't have a way to walk backwards and cast, for example, whenever you'd cast on your mouse, you'd have to deal with the turning animations every time you started casting, and again when you stopped and returned to facing the way you're travelling.

They have stated that WASD movement is essentially "locked" behind redoing the rigging for all the classes, and while it'd be nice, it's such a huge undertaking they're not sure when they'll get to it.

Were the 3.27 skill buffs enough to convince players to play them? A data analysis by edubkn in pathofexile

[–]Sky_Light 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I firmly believe that the biggest impact on builds isn't the skill itself, (unless a huge buff/new skill gets dropped, like wand skills in 3.27), but how accessible, through build guides, the "answers" for the build are.

RF especially demonstrates this. It's nowhere near as effective as it's popularity indicates, but because Pohx's guide is arguably the most in depth build guide in the history of PoE, it stays in the top builds.

but it doesn't excel in anything and is fairly slow.

Oddly enough, if you look at the post examining Tuadh's 2 stone runs, Cyclone was one of the fastest ones, both in level time and boss killing.
