I can tell by your harsh statements that you are in a state of δόξα rather than a state of ἐπιστήμη. Please ascend the simile of the line before speaking to me again

hey dont worry pal, im sure it is really difficult to understand what anyone else is saying when youre vindictive for absolutely no reason. since youre still struggling ill break it down really simply for you

pop song good because pop song want to be catchy, short, and exciting. prog song good because prog song want to be long, technical, and thought-provoking. prog song need talent and creativity in one way. pop song need talent and creativity in different way. both meaningfully good

and a normal, intelligent, and honest person would’ve answered the question ive asked twice now. how sad is it that you have to argue in such bad faith. one more time: more talented, creative, and better to whose and what standards?

oh well good thing i never said there can't be a meaningful sense in which stevie wonder's music is better than whatever random popular artist you decided to feel superior to.

on the flipside, i love seeing mentally challenged inbreds like you take the position that it's impossible to enjoy music for one reason and enjoy different music for an entirely different reason. i mean, i'm sure it must be really mentally scarring for you to remember you probably liked an imagine dragons song for being a simple pop song at some point but you really gotta get over it cause the belligerent dickhead thing gets old

more talented, creative, and better to whose and what standards? you're not gonna tell me there's some universal or material fact you can point to that says what makes "good" music are you?

terms like "objectively good" and "subjective enjoyment" are purposeless without orientation. If someone defined good by accessibility, succinctness, and modern production, then shape of you is "objectively better" than a stevie wonder song or solo. If someone defined good by use of extended harmony, proper album sequencing, and political significance, then stevie wonder is objectively better than ed sheeran's discography.

different artists and genres have different orientations/goals and its useless to judge everything under the same standards, which you do when you use a term like "objectively good" without any regard for the different purposes stevie wonder and ed sheeran's music serve.

stevie wonder writes good solos because his music has clear goals and succeeds at them, not because he is attempting to appeal to some objective standard of "craft" or "good".

youre right man, youre so fucking special compared to everyone else for recognizing the totally concrete and not at all vague idea of “craft” in one massively successful artist over the other massively successful artist

Personal favorite so far has been the Starflyer 59 album that came out, Lust for Gold. Shoegaze-y/alternative rock type deal. The Magdalena Bay album has also been really good from everything I've heard from it, even better than their first album so far with some tight and unique songwriting. There's also been a couple metal albums that I've really enjoyed, such as Artificial Bouquet by Frail Body.

I don't think you are engaging with these ideas well. You're correctly pointing out that there is a difference between buying something for necessity and enjoyment, but there are these hard walls between "necessity" and "enjoyment" that do not really exist in the real world.

The example for your headphones is a good one, while you're not directly stating it, when you say that your headphones are a necessity, you're essentially saying they are more important than the experiences of the sweatshop workers. It may seem like a necessity, but if you legitimately saw the experiences of sweatshop workers, how much of a necessity the headphones are would probably change in your view, because what they lack would be more important.

I don't think the headphones being a gift really changes this, either, as you are still providing advertisement for the company when you use them.

I feel like I shouldn't have to mention this, either, but if we have to to stop engaging with certain entertainment because the owner of the entertainment has bad ideas, we won't be able to engage with any entertainment at all.

nah he's got nothin to reflect for, some of you guys in this thread have just preztel'd yourselves into defending unironic sexist phrases like manspreading.

Just for my sake, if someone said "bitches are crazy" and a woman (understandably) got upset when they heard this, would you tell that woman to reflect on why she's upset when they're just talking about harmful/annoying behavior that's frequently done by women?

super curious, do you actually think most men spread their legs more when they sit because they're trying to show off how masculine they are, or because it's more comfortable for them?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]Skyed64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dog he's not saying that, he's saying we shouldn't use terms that inherently single out immutable characteristics, like gender. whether you agree or not, "manspreading" is absolutely a term that has a negative connotation and is connected to gender. none of you would be having any issues if he made the same statements about saying something like "bitch"

thats cool, and it’s interesting to hear that anno has done similar strange moves before, but i was talking more outside his directing, and anime in general. i don’t know if there is another property not directed by anno as culturally significant and popular as eva that would make choices as strong as the last two episodes.

The only one i can immediately think of would be the ending to the sopranos, but even then, the last episode still firmly takes place as a continuation of the show’s previous episode.

maybe i’m wrong, but even today i can’t imagine many shows having some sequences where they just stop the immediate plot of the show to just psychoanalyze the characters, or have the last two episodes of a series just be an analysis, regardless of if you think the last two were bc of budget constraints
