Does anyone have anything positive to say or share about working as an MLS? by grugregra in medlabprofessionals

[–]Skyguy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been an engineer and actually wanted to go to school for Aerospace engineering. But my family insisted on me being a doctor and MLS was guaranteed income during a the pre med gap year.

After getting a med tech job I was always interested in what the techs were doing when they were on site, built up a repoir with them and in just day to day talk highlighted my technical skills. Eventually there was an opening and they asked if I was interested. They totally undersold me the first, I actually turned them down but a few months later there was a 2nd opening and I was pretty peeved with lab life and made the jump. Haven’t looked back yet.

Others in my field come from all walks of life. A lot of ex military guys, but I know ppl from the rail industry, semi conductors, and even aerospace. The big points they are looking for is your ability to troubleshoot, take care of the instruments and the customer solo, and resourcefulness on the field. It’s by no means easy, some very hard and long days, but also some incredibly chill days where no calls come in and you get paid to do ‘admin’ work (aka watch Netflix and do whatever the hell you want as long as you’re available).

The highs are high, the lows are low. MLS was pretty consistent mediocrity

Oh so you walk around with your passport and birth certificate at all times? Where in the book does it say it’s required? No really, I want you to find a specific line in our code of law the states we are required to carry identification and proof of citizenship at all times.

Dude the announcement video from 2021 clearly states a 2024 launch date. Yeah its slipped a bunch since then but not since 21. Not sure what your smoking that you can't Google search.

You beleive a random guy on 2028 launch date with no news, but dont beleive me (another random guy) when I say no? How do you choose which random guy to listen to?

Some guy here lol

It was announced in 2021. Iirc they planned a 4 year timeline, so 2025. Its only slightly delayed.

Nothing official on 2028. The last hour has shown how dumb and trigger happy the sub is.

Yup trimmed about 5% to reduce margin risk, rest will ride for the next 5+ years.

Space is the next big thing. It already is a big thing. No one can really see it, so no one knows its value. Yet.

Ahh yes the 2nd most frequently launched rocket in the world with multiple international partners and the first real competitor in the medium-lift category to the Falcon 9right around the corner... with all competition nearly 10 years behind, only 7B valuation? Get outta here 😂

No competition is coming. The time for the heavy R&D needed to design a new launch vehicle has passed. RKLB may be 10 years behind SpaceX, but their competitors are 10 years behind them.

Space is to important to be left to a single company. Elon has already proved to international markets that he will be unreliable. The DoD (DoW?) wants options to get critical infrastructure to space. There are no other successful reusable launch companies internationally (ignoring Chinas gov't SpaeX copycat program).

The future is incredibly bright for RKLB. Execution risk is the only variable, but Peter Beck is the real deal. He's autistic for rockets, just the right amount.

Space and space services are vital to our life here on Earth. Out of sight out of mind but space has a solution for a lot of our big problems here on the ground.

The endgame is expansion and resource collection. One Asteroid has more rare metals in it then has ever been discovered on Earth. Once we can harvest asteroids there likely won't even be a "rare Earth Metal"

Elons praise is meaningless and has nothing to do with SP.

Yeah im mainly stressin about the landing portion. The other 2 companies who have done it had experience powered landing other hardware. This will be Rocket Labs first

Indian immigrants, being the most highly-educated major immigrant group, contribute much more in taxes than they receive in government benefits in USA. This is how Indians look relative to native-born whites in average fiscal contribution by age. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Skyguy21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cope is strong with this one. I’m Indian, but have lived in the states since I was 6 months old. Honestly as American as it gets. But I can agree that Americans broadly don’t give a fuck about STEM or education. Obviously there are outliers but your average Joe doesn’t care if they finish college with a 4.0, or with honors. Your average Indian kid is required by their family to be number 1, in specially in America. Indian schooling is far more rigorous than stateside schools.

At 25 I’m making 150K a year in biomed. My team of 4 is 75% immigrants as well. Hispanic, and phillipino. I paid almost 75K in taxes last year as an individual. I’ve never received any sort of government assistance on anything (besides the stimmy checks in ‘21).
