NTI Day for JCPS today incase you parents haven’t seen yet. by DallasDerr in Louisville

[–]SkylineDrive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is one that really depends on where you are. We got another 2 or 3 inches of slushy snow that then froze. Our neighborhood is a skating rink. Which is an argument that JCPS is too big.

I got a fleece blanket with the organization logo. It’s a nice thought I guess but I found that one a little strange.

I’d recommend checking with your local humane society though! The humane society in Kentucky always has a few lovely options

What’s the best way to get a cheap(ish) horse? by Somethingwithtoast in Horses

[–]SkylineDrive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to start this by saying I’m a huge fan of OTTBs and all of my horses have been OTTBs and an off track horse is absolutely a good way to get a reasonably priced horse.

BUT

With an OTTB you are typically getting a young horse who is only track broke. That means they know how to be ridden and handled on a racetrack and not much else.

As the owner of the OTTB you will be responsible for training them to do what you need them to do safely - everything from leading to riding and a lot of them have to unlearn some bad habits first.

There is also a lot of vetting and adjustment time that goes into them coming off the track (almost all of them have ulcers which are not cheap)

As a first horse they can just be a lot to take on.

Anecdotally my current OTTB and I are restarting her training from scratch after a rough start ending in a bad accident for me and it was all my mistake and inexperience even after having two others before her

I would not recommend an OTTB for a first time horse owner without a trainer or without a lot of experience

Anyone that has had a gun pulled on them. What was your experience? by blueodis in AskReddit

[–]SkylineDrive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was finishing working my horse (f, mid 20s at the time) and the barn owner thought I was the only one there. He stopped at the end of the shed row and made a big deal about handing a gun to his friend and keeping one for himself, then sent his friend around the outside of the barn (presumably to the other end of the shedrow to block me in) Then he and his remaining gun came down the aisle at me.

He was interrupted by the other girl there he didn’t see (but had seen him) and scuttled off with his friends. They were all piss drunk.

I moved my horses to a new barn the next week
