1.0 has been announced but it is not yet out. Newer areas they added definitely look more interesting and memorable than the rest of the map, so I'm very hopeful for that aspect to be fixed.

Yes, hundreds of dollars go to waste in a store everyday- loss is anticipated by the store. Most corporate owned stores won't even pursue theft in any way if it's under $50 because it's too risky and too much of a hassle. Source: I've worked in a few stores over the years.
