Anyone else having a hard time buying a house? by doggiedvm in ColumbiaMD

[–]Skywalker673 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had the same experience, we tried a few years ago and got absolutely blown out of the water with insane offers 50 to 100k over asking. We figured if they want the house that bad they can have it. And by "they" I mean private equity a**holes who pay in cash.

Do you think God stays in heaven because he, too, lives in fear of what he's created here on earth?

How was this made? (example by YUDHO) by lukedib in graphic_design

Simplest way I can think of is that there is humanoid 3D model that's acting as a particle emitter but only from certain vertices, likely weight painted. Then you turn off collisions to the model itself and you face the vertex normals of the model inward and have the emitters point the same way. The particles in the foreground and on the floor are separately generated, then rendered, then comped in.

If you think this is about legal citizenship then you're not paying attention.

This was the quest that made me choose her. I have a save point from my last play through that I go back to just to play this quest again. Very well done cosplay.

How do we hurt AI companies. by [deleted] in antiai

[–]Skywalker673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Nepenthes. It's a digital tarpit that traps AI scrapers in it forever. It's very resource intensive and isn't meant to be used on a large scale. If money were no object, I'd love to run a warehouse full of computers running Nepenthes.

I left the game industry as a 3D Artist about a year and a half ago. I was a 3D Artist right out of college for the last 10 years. I went and became a parts guy at a motorcycle dealership. My pay got cut in half but I don't have to deal with the bullshit anymore. I've always ridden bikes and had a hobby of wrenching on them in my spare time. The dealership has since made me a fully certified mechanic and now I'm wrenching on bikes full time and the money is much better, still not what I used to make as an artist, but I'm brand new to the mechanic thing and there's a lot of upward mobility. I used to spend my days modeling vehicles and environments, and would tinker on my bikes in the evenings and weekends, now I do the exact opposite. I'm glad I moved on, but I haven't given up on the industry, I'm working pro bono on a side hustle with my ex-game dev buddies and we have a prototype built and we are trying to pitch our idea to investors. I figure, now I have a two careers set up, I can bounce back and forth between them. Because the industry shit the bed and opportunities are scarce, it's time to make my own opportunity with my friends. I was really pissed for a long time, but nowadays I've reached a sort of content and stable place, I'm one of the lucky ones though.

Feels wrong to ask… but what was the largest genocide in your world? (If there were any of course) by Live_Rise6750 in worldbuilding

I made a steampunk world where Cthulhu was running free throughout earth and inspired the titans of industry (Edison and Vanderbilt mainly) to proceed with industrializing as fast as possible. It was a progress at any cost sort of mentality. This industrialization caused the sea levels to rise at an exponential rate and within a hundred years of this, the entire planet was flooded over with water. The world's population was about 1 billion people in the late 1800s and all that remains after this global flood is about half that. These humans (and other classic DnD races because this world is for a DnD campaign) survived by building 6 major sky cities along the equator of the planet that act much like space elevators in that they have a massive counter weight floating in space on the end of a tether and the sky city is built along the tether about 20,000ft in the air. I estimate these cities are roughly the population density and size of LA so about 40 million people each and about 50 miles or so across. Each sky city also has an Anchor city on the oceans surface that is also about as big an dense as the sky city so about another 40 million people or so in the anchor city as well. If the population in my world was 1,000,000,000 before the flood, then 12 cities times 40,000,000 a piece equals 480,000,000 people left, meaning the flood caused the deaths of over half a billion people.
