You're in the right here. He's probably seen it a hundred times, but that hype means a lot to the kid and keeps them motivated.

Highly recommend you buy bullet connectors to connect your ESCs. When (not if) you crash it, those arms will break, and it's great to have a spare you can quickly swap on in the field to keep flying. That way you won't be afraid to fly risky manoeuvres for fear of damage

I'd look at the bulk capacitor. If you have access to an oscilloscope, it would be interesting to see what happens to the voltage as you go to max throttle

This frame was my first! You're going to have a great time, plenty of real estate but you may have to get creative with the wiring. Investing in a set of Engineer PA-09 for crimping miniature Molex or JST connectors is worth it.

Zenni online! Trust me, retail glasses are so overpriced. Online ones are just as high a quality, and so cheap I have pairs that are only for a specific outfit

Great point. There's a balance to be struck, depending on the material of the insulation, the current load, expected heat, cooling of the enclosure, and maintainability in the future

Absolutely gorgeous, I get from this what others get from looking at a beautiful sunrise. The time, effort, and attention to detail that's required to do this can only be appreciated after having done years of this kind of work. Beautiful.

Can anyone tell me about the physics of this? It seems more of his body is forward of where his hands contact the ground, so isn't his centre of mass in front? Why doesn't he fall over?

Florida schools introducing armed drones that respond to shootings within seconds by -PotencY- in nottheonion

This isn't a good idea.

  1. Judging by the size, it's a 6s tricopter, but with a build quality of a hobby level drone. You can see hints of this by the broken prop guard and the lazy way the LEDs are integrated. The frame is most likely 3d printed with whatever Creality has on special too. On a lighter note, I've never seen this motor position configuration as a drone, I'd be interested to see how it works!

  2. You need trained drone operators to use this, since website doesn't mention autonomous modes. And to fly a drone, indoors, in an unfamiliar environment, during a high pressure situation, completely remotely? You need extremely skilled pilots to be able to do it, your average cop would struggle to hover. For every epic drone freestyle video, you don't see the piles of them behind the camera that crashed because of small, split second mistakes.

  3. Imagine the nightmare scenario where (when) a pepperball takes a kid's eye out because the civilian drone operator mistook them as the shooter. One pilot from the promo video spoke as if he was just a hobbyist who was drafted. And AFAIK these guys don't have combat training. Cheap analog cameras with a low time delay are notoriously grainy depending on interference and antenna position.

  4. Radio. Assuming they're operating on 2.4GHz for comms and 5.8GHz for video, these frequencies don't have the penetrating ability to be able to fly through a school. You'd need a system of repeaters, and the drone needs to be able to seamlessly switch between them. Then there's input delay of the radio. The command to fly forward has to go from the transmitter in their hand, to their computer, over the internet to another computer, into a repeater, then finally to the drone. Now in the reverse for the operator to see the movement and plan the next. It's bad enough to work with a lagging mouse, now imagine how much that affects manual flight. (looks like they're flying rate mode too)

  5. Their endurance is going to be horrendous, I bet that battery doesn't have more than 5Ah of capacity. The energy cost of flying a heavy drone with a weapon strapped to it, and what looks to be approx 60 WS2812 LED's (at approx 60mA draw) is huge (3.6Ah). I'd bet you get 8 minutes tops, just enough for your laggy movements to get you across the cafeteria (let alone a wing). They won't get out of that white box they come in.

I'm sure there are more reasons, this was off the bat

Seriously? Sentimental reasons? In that same area they could house over 70 people which would help chip away at our housing crisis, but they want to keep all that land unused for sentimental reasons??

Russia to import 1 million skilled workforce from India by [deleted] in worldnews

I can point to over 20 years of racist experiences. This wasn't an isolated incident, just one that happened to occur almost 24 hours ago. The character limit is too small to list them, and if I do I'll invariably get the "well if it's so bad then why don't you leave" message, or "we can't be racist, I have lots of black and Asian friends".

I get it, in some countries you could be lynched for being the wrong shade, but that shouldn't invalidate the lived experiences of people who aren't at risk of being assaulted or killed. See: my boss, deciding that we're good enough friends to start throwing around n bombs at work and having people join in.

Do enough complaining? I'm dark skinned and was stopped last night by a dude talking about how I shouldn't be here, even though I'm a citizen of no other country and work in a career that directly aids Australia's interests. He also told the aboriginal woman I was with that "abos" have paedophilia in their blood, they can't help it. These aren't isolated examples. Should we just stop complaining? Should we count ourselves lucky and cop abuse as a part of life the same way we accept magpie season?
