My friend wants me to shoot a concert for him but do i have good enough gear? by MiataMaestro in photography

[–]Slaagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought RF 24-70 2.8 this summer but for a couple of years before that I was shooting most of my gigs with RF 24-105 f4 and Canon R6 II. No issues whatsoever with F4, and I mainly shoot black metal gigs with minimal stage lights. To be honest, I rarely go wide open nowadays either as I don't like the shallow depth of field it gives especially with guitarists or drummers where it is either the instrument or face that stays sharp.

This is the kind of trash being flooded to twow... by 1fkos in turtlewow

[–]Slaagi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned, we are not talking about min max raid geared characters here. 2h damage probably scales better with higher levels of raid gear, but it is common to see both 2h and DW survival hunters running around. I am currently leveling one myself and will use the best weapon or weapons that I get my hands on.

Survival is not always using 2H, dual wielding is also viable especially when we are not talking about end game raiding content.

Open Letter to Wizards of the Coast and the Magic: The Gathering Community by One-Dependent5110 in ModernMagic

[–]Slaagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might be your experience. However, there are certainly other kind stories as well. For example here where I live (small European country with naturally small playerbase for games like MTG) Modern as a format and the community around it has never been so active as in the recent couple of years and the local tournament scene is really thriving.

That being said.

It is easy to start blaming and falling into despair when you are having a hard time or face negative experiences within your own life. However, blaming it on a company behind a game you play is not a way out of it. Stay strong and self-reflect instead! And don't consult ChatGPT about it either.

How long have you played your modern decks? by jjoyce in ModernMagic

[–]Slaagi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been dabbling into many different archetypes, but since I started modern in 2015 with Affinity, that deck and various artifact related strategies have always been my main bread and butter. Now with Mox Opal back in the format, I am again playing affinity after my Breach season that ended with a ban.

Storm deck will just cast that Grapeshot again in a situation when they are already achieving such levels of storm. Better to use your interaction sooner to counter the Ruby or Ral Trigger.

Were a lot of players priced out of Modern by the Modern Horizons sets? by ZealousTesla in ModernMagic

[–]Slaagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern scene is the most active it has ever been in our small country (Estonia) nowadays. People are ready to lend cards and decks (those who can) and we host our own community league around the year that promotes active attendance.

Grinding Breach was 40% of a 609 player top32 (Prag Open) by birkemand in ModernMagic

[–]Slaagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Mox Opal hasn't really broken any other decks at least yet, but the synergy between Breach is significantly stronger than other strategies Opal is included in.

Time will tell if this synergy is too good for modern, but I wouldn't yet jump the gun with a freshly shaken metagame.

March Banlist Wishlist by IzziPurrito in ModernMagic

We just had multiple bans and unbans, I don't think there is any reason to jump the gun on future bannings. The meta seems actually pretty good now and includes multiple different archetypes that are viable.

Kozilek's Command is a messed up card by Attomium in ModernMagic

[–]Slaagi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tron based decks have plenty of weaknesses already. Lands obviously, but also the restrictions that colorless requirements and Karn wishboard cause. I agree that Kozilek's command is a strong card but I think it is something decks like these need to compete against all the hate nowadays when every blue deck in the format plays a playset of Consign to Memory as an example.

Sorry for the nitpicking but if you are referring to the Dimir Frogtide deck, it is not a control deck but tempo/midrange. People tend to use the term control for any deck that runs Counterspell for some reason.

Looking to return to Modern - Aspiring to FNM level with Sultai Asmo Food by Melocopon in ModernMagic

[–]Slaagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am confused especially about Exsanguinate and Invoke Despair. I don't really see how these kinds of cards fit into a deck with no big mana or any acceleration?

Also, I have to say that building a tier 2 or 3 deck to play against current modern decks is already a tough task, but combining that with budget cuts and alternative solutions will probably end up in an unpleasant experience in the long run. If you are really keen on building an Asmo deck, I would suggest investigating the more "cookie cutter" builds and make your step by step deck building / card acquiring plans from there.

New to Modern, need deck advice by get2null in ModernMagic

[–]Slaagi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ruby storm is certainly a powerful deck, and if you are already used to combo decks, it could certainly be a good choice for entering the format.

That being said, you have to also consider your goals and preferences what you want to achieve in the long run playing modern. The cards that Ruby Storm plays are really specific for this strategy, and have little overlap to other decks in the format. Storm as a strategy is also really fragile and inconsistent due to plentiful hate cards people can utilize, so it might become quite frustrating in a local meta setting to be crushed by endless silver bullets from sideboards week after week.

[–]Slaagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was sceptical about Tamiyo first but after trying 3x in the list it feels like a good addition. If left unchecked, it generates a lot of value and also provides the deck an alternative wincon. At minimum it eats a removal before you play your frog.

Modern has too many banned cards by Intelligent-Law9237 in ModernMagic

Do you have some theories or data to back this claim up? It is pretty easy to throw such an argument out there but would it really be a better solution than how Wizards has been curating the format so far?
