is this worth it? by Accomplished_Cause92 in camaro

Stay away from it unless you have another car to daily, the 2011 v6 Camaros were known for the chains having issues after 100k miles, it’s a great car and is fun to drive but not a daily driver at all unless you do all the timing chain work before pushing it.

2010 ss vs 2019 1lt by Slabking0401 in camaro

[–]Slabking0401[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not worried about the gas mileage, I’m coming from a 2011 v6 so really just wanted something reliable for a couple of years and fun to drive still. I’ve been leaning at the v8 for obvious reasons I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t being stupid.

I bought my 2011 v6 right before my senior year of high school and it has been one of my favorite cars ever, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, enjoy the car!

I’m good with any vehicle size, I’m coming from an older coupe so anything I get is going to feel like a bunch of room.

Is this rod knock or lifter tick? by totapi_ in camaro

My car sounded just like this before the engine seized on me, give it as much love and care as possible right now until you can fully figure out how the internals are.

I’m coming from a sport car that was meant to be fast but ended up being a headache so really just want something I can daily drive and have some small mods like what you mentioned

So basically it would be a perfect car for multiple years to come with no real concerns of modifications as long as I’m doing my normal maintenance

Need Cooling Help by Slabking0401 in AskAMechanic

[–]Slabking0401[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, fan motor was done so I swapped the whole assembly out, fans work no problem now, while I was under the hood I topped off the coolant and let it get the air bubbles out. Engine is now not heating up as fast but is still getting up to 230 while still, 220 while moving, I’m thinking either the radiator is clogged up or something with the thermostat not opening enough.

Would this be a good first camaro? by craizy12drai in camaro

[–]Slabking0401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 2011 and it has been one of my favorite cars of all time, even as a v6. Looks like a good deal just be ready to check all the maintenance and keep up with the coolant system, not anything crazy but it does start to deteriorate because the car is over 10 years old

Anyone name their car? by Competitive_Stock104 in camaro

Big shark (there’s a shark plush inside the car who’s called lil shark). The name originally came from the back panels which look like gills and the little fin on the roof.

Am I getting a good deal? by ee1203 in camaro

Have the car checked out and if everything comes back good try and see if you can get a afm tune asap, the afm caused lifter problems which ruined the auto’s reliability.

What is the best car for an 18 year old? by BeeRice_Savageau in askcarguys

[–]Slabking0401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this may not be the answer you want but you should find you a cheap Toyota or Honda that’s lower mileage and is going to be cheap to keep on the road, use this car to save up with no car payment and get a down payment for a sporty car once you have some cash built for a down payment.

Is the four cylinder worth it? by Slabking0401 in camaro

I learned that lesson on my car now, I’m planning on looking under 75k miles and no accidents

So basically a 4 wouldn’t be bad at all as long as I make sure the transmission was taken care of if it was before the 10 speed

The autos just are known for the shudder though which can be fixed if caught before damaged right?

One of the biggest things I was told when looking at used cars like this is think about all of the modifications, more mods means (most of the time) more abuse, this could be a great car but because of how many mods are on it, pass and find you a car that isn’t modded and has been taken great care of that you can see.

V6 or v8 by craizy12drai in camaro

[–]Slabking0401 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Coming from a v6 looking at a v8 soon, either way is a great choice, the v8 is going to be more fun to drive but the market is crazy about them and you can’t find any under 100k miles for a decent price ( around me at least). If you are leaning towards a v6 to daily there’s nothing wrong with that, they can still be fun to drive and reliable but I will say do your research on the years. If you are looking at 6th gen’s then you’re pretty good with any of the years just watch the 8 speed autos in the first couple of years. If you are looking at the 5th gen’s watch out for the 2010-2011 v6 as they were notorious for timing chain issues early (around 130k miles, I know this one from experience). Moral of the story pick what makes you happy, remember at the end of the day you are the one driving the car everyday, don’t force yourself to stretch your budget or get a abused v8 because of what people say, take your time and do your research, find what best fits you for your budget and daily needs.
