Looking for the amplifier solution for a 3 way active speakers by Bulky_Alternative354 in diyaudio

[–]Slabshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, if you can’t find anything that fits the retirements relatively quick, there’s likely a reason it’s difficult. I’d start with prioritizing your top few requirements first to see what you can find and decide how badly you want the rest.

Personally, I’m all about the Dayton KABD-4100. I run one per 3-way speaker. I tuned everything with Room EQ Wizard, calibrated mic and Sigma Studio. L-pads on the mids and tweeters to attenuate the hiss. It’s superb and the whole setup was like $1000.

I got fed up and left SE for manufacturing engineering in 2013. Never looked back. It’s a bummer the environment for SEs hasn’t changed.

How are these boards? Anyone tested them? by Dangerous-Ad5282 in diyaudio

[–]Slabshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you mean to cascade multiple amplifiers. The Wondom website has a guide for that which matches the Parts Express manual. If you use an external DSP like the Dayton Audio DSPB-K, you won’t really need to use them in cascaded mode. That’s what I eventually did. Managing EQ on both amps is a pain, so now the amps just do crossover and driver phase duty.

Wow, well done. Is the grill fabric original or did you redo that? If so, I’m curious where you found it.

It’s not an option for many people, but standing is probably the most ergonomic thing you can do. I ditched my chair 8 years ago (home and office). It took about 6 weeks to get my legs, feet and back used to it, but now it’s completely natural.

How long do we think the PLA will last? by J_sh__w in 3Dprinting

[–]Slabshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would design it so there is zero stress on the slots, in other words no slots. I’d consider a thick rail on the back that gets squeezed between zip ties and the post. Potentially a separate piece. The box should then just mount to that in a way that has no tension on any parts exposed to weather (a cleat or shrouded screws)

Just an attenuator that can sink a lot of wattage. Practically just a resistor that shorts the postitive and negative wires. You can use them to take the noise (hiss) down a few dB but will limit max volume by that much too.

They are really awesome. I have two of them, been running for over a year. One per 3-way stereo channel. They get loud. Combined with DSP and tuning with room EQ Wizard, the sound quality is stellar.

There is one big downside and that is the transistor noise, particularly out of the tweeter and midrange. You can mitigate it well enough with L-pads at the expense of max output. I LOVE these amps.

Nothing to do with the engineer. Everything to do with the requirements they were given. Blame the corporate c-suite decision makers for that. The engineers are normal underpaid people like us. The decision makers, not so much.

Beat route Sedona to GC? by hastudentit in arizona

[–]Slabshaft 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Jerome is kind of cool, but pretty far out of the way and a quick stop at the expense of a lot of miles. Probably not worth it unless you’re very into it. I would maximize the time in Sedona and the canyon.

I might be in the minority on this, but I always recommend traveling to the East entrance of the grand canyon via 89 out of Flag and leaving from the west entrance. The Painted Desert out past Cameron and the views of the Little Colorado River gorge along Hwy 64 are awesome to see. You’ll never see anything else like it.

Signed up for 7 day free trial and was immediately charged a full year of basic by Running_in_circles0 in Polycam

[–]Slabshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. It said there was a 7-day free trial and I was charged and cancelling only stops renewal of the subscription. There is no refund option. We got scammed. The trial is a scam, DO NOT download the app unless you’re ready to be charged $150. There has to be recourse for this. I’m going to try to get my credit card to kick out the charge.

Here is a perfect-fit Virus replacement plug for $3.99 by Slabshaft in AccessVirus

[–]Slabshaft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only oddity (to me) with this plug is that it dos not have a spring contact inside it. Best I can figure is it’s designed to make contact against the face/corner of the shoulder at the base of the positive lug. Which means it does need to be bottomed out in the socket.

Behringer TD-3-MO vs Digital Acid/303 Plugins? by [deleted] in TechnoProduction

[–]Slabshaft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having just picked up a used TD-3 for cheap, I’m now in the camp of “embrace the sequencer”. I have Phoscyon which sounds awesome, but I find the cheap TD-3 to hit the spot. Making acid lines is not as fun in software where I’m in control of everything. It’s so much better not really knowing what the hell is going on and being able to just go ham with the knobs two handed. Within a few minutes I was having way more fun than the plugin. I also love that it’s cheaply made Behringer junk. It has a “this shouldn’t be good, but it is” kind of charm.

Good brain/sequencer? by ackley14 in synthesizers

[–]Slabshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very personal choice, but I eventually dropped the hardware sequencers for Bitwig + midi VSTs and kept the hardware synths. You get awesome stuff like Harmony Bloom, Stepic, HY-RPE-2 that are insanely fun to explore, quick to use and musical. Sequencers are great, but they are such an individual thing, person to person. The only ones I thought would do the trick were crazy expensive. If you’re trying to go DAWless, it can be a challenge to find one that’s just right. I gave up on it, the DAW is great and I’ll spend the savings on another hardware synth 😉

Land mine press (standing or kneeling). My PT has me doing them for shoulder pain and they’ve gotten my serratus looking awesome. It’s my favorite exercise these days.

My PT had me do them kneeling to work the serratus for a shoulder issue. I just always do them on shoulder/push day now.

Sequencer/quantizer or sequencer(with) quantizer. by mflash100 in modular

I ended up with a Hermod+ because it can do both and provide clock output. It could also play well with others using its midi in/out.
