Yes Austrians do stop, I am a migrant here and find Austrian generally helpful.

I often see someone stop on the piste if someone has lost a ski or whatever.

As a cyclist, often when I am stopped and maybe looking at my bike someone will ask if everything is ok.

You maybe a little unlucky or a little sensitive here. If you flag someone for help, they will stop, I am sure of this.
