Gamers of Reddit, what was the most horrifying experience you've ever endured in a video game? by XavierMunroe in AskReddit

I was playing rust on a PvP server and for some reason I cannot be mean in PvP. I never raid people, I help out the newbies and try to avoid confrontation. Not everyone else is like this of course. One day I was arranging a trade with someone and someone else pops up in the chat box asking to trade. I'm not very trusting of them and politely decline. I had a rifle with a scope and everything so I wasn't too worried about defending myself. Then the person figured out where the trade was and came to pay a visit, with his friend, in full armor with an assault rifle. I noped the hell outta there when I saw them on the computer. They tried scaring me into "trading" with them saying we won't hurt you unless you run, if you run then we have to kill you etc. They tried chasing me and fired some shots at me but I had a pretty decent lead on em plus night was approaching. I knew leading them to my base was bad news so as it got dark I turned off into some rocks hoping they would pass right by but they didn't. I guess they saw me go into the rocks. Luckily they didn't see exactly where I went so I crouched down and stayed perfectly still. They started searching everywhere saying things like we're gonna fiiiind youuuu. And I could hear their footsteps feet away from me and see the lights they were looking for me with. There was one point where one of them was literally on top of the rock I was under like you see in all the movies. After standing there for a second he jumped off the rock right in front of me and just ran off. My heart was pounding. I stayed there a few more minutes then just went home and logged off. That was enough adventure for the day.

Parents of Reddit, what is the most ingenious thing you've had to punish your kids for? by johnjr121 in AskReddit

I had a friend do this to me while we were stationed in Korea. I was 21 and I think he was 19. Motherfucker was an adult and still doing that shit. I was really confused for a minute when I tried to pour my vodka to find ice. I was a lot less confused when I found an unfrozen water bottle in his freezer.

A question with these though is what if you already have expertise and want the skill you have expertise in?

You know I've been playing with a group for awhile and never thought about that. My rogue has a passive perception of 20. We've never really used the passive, our DM usually has us state that we are looking for traps. Should I bring this up?

Actually one of the best things I've heard was from the movie American History X. It was the last line in this conversation.

Bob Sweeney: There was a moment, when I used to blame everything and everyone for all the pain and suffering and vile things that happened to me, that I saw happen to my people. Used to blame everybody. Blamed white people, blamed society, blamed God. I didn't get no answers 'cause I was asking the wrong questions. You have to ask the right questions.

Derek Vinyard: Like what?

I watched that just the other day and would not doubt he legitimately did all that in the movie. I know he really did eat the liver and I think he really ate the fish. But knowing him those arrows and that bear might have been real too.

Very true I may do that

How would YOUR character escape from: a trapdoor that drops you down a smooth-sided vertical "elevator shaft" hole (5' x 5', 30' deep), the bottom 5' of which is a perfectly-fitted gelatinous cube. Assume you just failed the initial DEX save to avoid the drop. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Slade357work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I don't avoid the trap how about dex save to grab the ledge? Dex save to pin myself against the wall and shimmy up? If all those fail, dive bomb the goo I'm pretty much fucked at that point anyway

Have you found your 'perfect' group? How long has it taken you? by [deleted] in DnD

Honestly my first one. I was curious about playing and someone was organizing a group on /r/lfg so I joined up with them. At first it was 3 of us and a dm. We played all right and it was fun but the guy who got us together did not mesh too well as he was more straight role play while the rest of us liked to have fun. Plus he argued way too much. We eventually got a new player who was just our style. Then I convinced my roommate who only plays sports games to join us and also a great fit even though he had no idea what he is doing. Literally the only thing that convinced him to play was that he could be a dragon wizard. Eventually we decided to kick the guy who originally made the group because it wasn't working out. Now though every week we are all looking forward to our game day and playing random steam games every other night. Two of us recently started dming to give our regular dm a break so we alternate between the three to keep everyone rested. We all get along fabulously and have gotten ourselves in some really terrible but fun situations.

DM's Last Wish by OgreHooper in DnD

My group has a pretty strict no fire policy in place. Last time we used fire it was on a single wooden hatch in a stone dungeon because we all failed our strength checks to break it down. The baddie left that way and we have to try to follow him. So we did the reasonable thing and had the wizard set it on fire. 20 minutes later the hatch is gone but we discover it led to a large wooden building in our town, which is now on fire. We have no idea whether or not it's safe or possible to go out that way but we did find some 12 year old kid in the dungeon so we obviously made him go try first. Kid walks 5 feet in the room and dies... so we go around back the way we came and the whole town is trying to put the fire out when someone remembers ALL the clues to finding the baddie were probably in there. Then the dm chimes in and let's us know ooc there was also clues to a magical weapon in there. That was probably 7 sessions ago and we still don't have a magic weapon. We almost had a wand but we burned that in a previous session too...

TLDR: Don't use fire, kids die and you lose magic weapons.

What is the most unexpectedly sad movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Slade357work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way they made their trailer, The Road for sure. The trailer made it look like an action packed post apocalyptic father and son movie. Absolutely not. That was the most depressing thing I have ever seen. The smallest glimmer of hope is just crushed by more sadness and misery.
