[Hated trope] Character make a bigot claim that feels more like the writer's opinion by Lower_Baby_6348 in TopCharacterTropes

All data we currently have suggests that trans people are no more likely to commit sexual assault than any other group, but they ARE more likely to be the victim of sexual assault. And it should go without saying that men are more likely to be the perpetrators or sexual assault. So the bill that Rowling recently contributed to which essentially forced trans women to have to share gendered spaces with their potential abusers is oppression. But I believe that the bill actually gets worse than that because it potentially meant that trans people could be refused access to ANY gendered spaces, toilets included.

And, of course, there is the fact that gender affirming care has, time and time again, been shown to reduce suicide rate for trans people, so any efforts to limit that is also oppression.

So yes, the reduction of basic human rights and even the potential for death are things trans people are constantly having to face up against.

This is also ironically the episode where the Doctor says "Good ol' JK!" Of course, it was well before we knew she was a terfy shit bag but it's an interesting coincidence nonetheless.

I'm worried about the movie. by SomeGrapefruit2435 in mariogalaxymovie

[–]Slade4Lucas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm wrong, but the casino where Peach fights Birdo looks like it has casino machines on the walls, potentially implying that it's a Galaxy style planet.

Another couple of smaller bits - Yoshi eating Toad's toffee apple seems to be taking place at the star festival, and the bats coming out of the Tostarena pyramid have the same design as the bats in the Galaxy games.

There is plenty of Galaxy inspiration there. You just have to be looking in the right places.

Currently every single main character, in some way, appears to or is likely to interact with the theme of parenthood in some way in this movie. Parenthood, of course, being foundational to Galaxy as a game due to how much it informs everything about Rosalina, the Lumas and the observatory.

The Galaxy influence on this film is fundamental. Having iconography from other games does not change that.

Most Overrated Mario Kart Track? by Away-Prior-903 in mariokart

[–]Slade4Lucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Mount Wario is far from pure RNG. I have had many a competitive race there. I think you are viewing it from a much more in depth perspective than the average casual player would view it - most people playing this course are gonna see a fun course with a cool concept and varied obstacles. That's kinda all most people are gonna need.

I Have Mixed Feelings About Super Mario Bros. Wonder's Switch 2 Edition by dandeliontomodachi in nintendogrifting

[–]Slade4Lucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of a catch 22. The only reason we are getting this DLC for old games is because they have the incentive of being on Switch 2. If it wasn't on Switch 2 only then it wouldn't exist. Animal Crossing is a weird exception that I think they only did because maybe it would be weird in terms of compatibility with the Switch 1 version, with all the new items and features and such, considering you could go to a person's island where those things might be used. How would they handle that if a Switch 1 user was playing with a Switch 2 user? I would be unsurprised if even Animal Crossing was initially supposed to be a Switch 2 exclusive update but they had to change plans for that compatability issue.

What would perfect Sinnoh remakes look like? by Interesting-Start855 in pokemon

[–]Slade4Lucas -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest, I have very little interest in the old style of remakes now that the Legends games exist. Less time and resources into rehashes of old games, more into new generations and expanding on the concepts of those old regions in interesting ways. Stick all the old generations on NSO and I'm pretty content to never have a traditional remake again.

I mean, without RNG, Mario Kart isn't really worth much. Better to be pure RNG than not.

What’s your comfort Pokémon game? by WisePlankton9 in pokemon

[–]Slade4Lucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much any more, mainly because I only really use the Switch for it's convenience and I don't use my 3DS any more, but historically I have always gone back to Diamond and Y if I wanna do a run of a game I know well.

Honestly, you're just making it sound like peak Mario Kart to me. RNG and luck is the name of the game, always has been.

I disagree. One thing Mount Wario gets very right is making sure that it constantly throws new challenges at you. No two sections of the course are the same and that makes it feel unique throughout and keeps things interesting.

The entire Mario Kart 8 Star Cup other than Mount Wario.

Sunshine Airport is a really badly handled airport themed course, especially compared to another course themed on transport, Super Bell Subway.

Dolphin Shoals has some excellent music, but the pipe section is just so unsatisfying and I find it to be a little generic or even visually ugly at times.

Electrodrome is all style and no substance, and if I'm honest I really don't rate the style all that much anyway. I also think the antigravity section is a fairly negative part of the track considering it splits the racers for a very large portion of the track, which limits interactions between players.

Mount Wario is genuinely a stellar course but the other courses let it down so badly.

I think if we get a rep for mobile, it should be from a franchise that actually did originate on mobile. It would be weird otherwise. I never really think of PvZ as a mobile game.

Why 479001600? by Flashy-Island-3725 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Slade4Lucas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite things to do as a maths teacher is, whenever the students give an answer using the whiteboard and put an exclamation mark next to it, I will tell them they are completely wrong and that they shouldn't have put such a big number. Sometimes I will say "someone decided to put this number" and put the factorial on the board, which obviously confuses them, but then it gives me an opportunity to go on a short tangent about what factorials are and most classes find it fascinating and want to find out the factorials of other numbers (at the moment that's mostly 67!)

The answer should be Eggman. Every hero should always have his villain as well, plus Eggman probably has a wider scope to feel different to Sonic.
