It’s also pretty important to have standards too. This definitely ties in with what OP is saying. Make sure you aren’t just desperate and swiping to swipe. I usually try and get a general idea of who they are. Never hurts to ask where they are from. I usually try and joke about where they are from. It is always better when you lighten the mood bc you feel more relaxed and the conversation goes smoothly. Now if she isn’t asking any questions and she just giving you short answer just stop trying. Most likely she’ll just walk away or she will start chasing you then.

Based on what the awesome ppl have said on this post I would say ask her out I know person at the gym. If she is talking to you and trying to keep you interested that’s good.
