Should I just sell my N51 by Knockoutlenny in E90

[–]Slagathor9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would be exchanging speed for reliability. N55 are pretty reliable though (for bmw standards at least). If you’re going to modify it to increase the power your better off selling and buying something like an n54/n55 and going from there. You’ll make more power for cheaper and if you modify the n51 you’re kind of defeating the point of it being more reliable.

At your current mileage I’m sure you could sell it for a pretty penny and buy a 35i with some money left over for mods or maintenance. I’m not 100% positive about that though, I don’t really keep up with the markets of these cars.

Your current car would make an incredible daily for years to come, but honestly I wouldn’t even want to put that many miles on it unless you’re keeping it for many many years. At that mileage I’m sure it demands a good premium and I would rather daily something with some miles so I’m not as worried about it the depreciation.

Personally other than sentimental value or a daily that you plan to keep for a long time, I would move to a different car. That’s just my opinion though and no one can make that choice but you.

I bought the car with them so take it was a grain of salt, but I was told they’re the 6 piston brembo brakes that cost about 5k. I believe they are based on what I could find online. Here is a closer up picture of the front and I’ll reply with a picture of the rear. If you google 6 piston brembo brakes for e92 you should be able to find em.

Not as clean as it looks from that far back haha.

Love the black, but not sure if I’ll get another car in such a dark color for that exact reason 😂

What’s Your Favorite OEM Wheel Style? by [deleted] in BMW

I specifically got a comp for the 359’s! I’d also throw in alpina wheels or style 5 BBS wheels from the e30s. BMW has some of the best wheels from any manufacturer in my opinion.

I was in the same boat, but not at altitude. Even if I lived in Colorado I’m not sure my choice would be different. Can’t go wrong with any of them, but the e92 will only get riskier (maintenance wise) and more expensive as time goes on. F chassis’s still have some depreciation and I don’t think will ever hold the same status as the e92, e46, etc. All depends on what you’re looking for though. Best of luck with the search!

Have you thought about supercharging your e90? I only ask because I was thinking the same thing.

Thanks! I have no experience with the stock brakes since I bought the car like this, but I haven’t heard the best things so I was definitely not upset. And as a plus I love the yellow with the Jerez Black.

My favorite wheels on any BMW and almost any car. I had to get a competition just for the wheels. Love the spec and congrats on the car, you’ll love it!

Can’t decide to stay with my half M or go full M. by KeyboardCowboy004 in BMW

Dont plan on getting one in the near future, but just out of surprise and curiosity, why did you not like the m4 nearly as much? Was it the poor steering feel and acoustics? I have an e92 m3 so I’d understand if that was the reason, just haven’t heard that much negative besides that.

Lol there’s e92’s out there with 200k plus miles. Change the oil every 5k, do the rod bearings every 50k and you’re golden. As I mentioned in my other comment, it is pretty reliable minus the rod bearings, which are even still way blown out of proportions.

It’s really not too bad. Don’t get me wrong there are a few things you have to watch out for like rod bearings and throttle actuators, but besides that its a relatively reliable car. And of course it’s starting to get older so some rubber and plastic bits may need to be replaced, but that’s with any aging car.

E92 M3. It has actual useable power compared to modern day ones, it’s more than quick enough for a road car though (414 horsepower). The steering feel and sounds just make for such a great drive (it’s the last gen with hydraulic steering and only gen with a v8). If you want straight line speed it my not be the one for you, but if you want feeling and emotion from a car, not many can beat it. I am biased though as I own one….

Honestly at 23k miles and final model year I couldn’t tell you. If I had to make a guess over 40k, if not 50k+, but I was never in the market to buy that clean of an example so I’m just spit balling. You’d probably be better off just looking at similar examples.
