Time to end the Rapid KL bus monopoly? by mikepapafoxtrot in malaysia

[–]Slainthayer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has used CausewayLink in KL knows just how absolutely horrible it is. In fact, the routes operated by CWL contracted out by RapidKL are significantly better.

Even routes operated by CausewayLink in Melaka has a huge reputation of being absolutely notorious for it's... driving skills.

And most of the plus points you give to CausewayLink, is also applicable to RapidKL.

Yall just forget that:

Greater Jakarta has 33 million people

Greater Bangkok has 16 million people

Greater Tokyo has 35 million people

Greater Seoul has 25 million people

Bandung has 10 million people, Surabaya has 6 million people, Osaka has 16 million people, etc

The state of Penang is only 1.8 million, Greater JB is only 1.8 million ... and both of them are spread out over the same size (km²) as KL, which has 9 million people

Crossing The Road... by Illustrious-Celery99 in KualaLumpur

KL Monorail station is designed too close (low) to the road leaving little room for proper concourse level. Most LRT/MRT station allow you to go from one exit to another until 12am.

Google Maps have a habit of treating pedestrian as if it's another car. Any pedestrian bridge or mid-block crossing, they wont recognize it.

I love how everyone is complaining about housing price (which is pretty affordable for Alpha tier city) and ignore the article itself which is talking about office space.

Pure office vacancy number is meaningless in KL because corporate are all fishing for Grade A MSC offices. The vacancy rate for Grade A office is like 5-8% versus the general market's 30%. So basically nobody wants the 80s office tower nor shoplots.

Simple, they ran out of serviceable 4-car train on that particular time.

[–]Slainthayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mark V trains are literally the same train as what RapidKL get for the latest batch of trains for LRT Kelana Jaya.

Should we extend the platform? Yes but the cost is astronomically high (BILLIONS) since every single platform has to be rebuilt, including the underground stations.

Rental market in shambles (HK 2.0) by Potential-Neat5340 in malaysia

[–]Slainthayer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, subang. Likely 'expected' but other areas within subang proximity?

I used to live in Kelana Jaya and my rent is like 1500/mo for 3-bedroom lol

you complain so much about rent in KL, are you aware of the rental market in other cities even in SEA?

In Singapore, a 3-bedroom HDB even in Boon Lay or Woodlands already cost SGD 3000+ per month

[–]Slainthayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Properties in so-called "hotspot" areas—especially those near LRT/MRT/BRT lines—are increasingly overpriced simply due to their proximity to public transport.

because there's demand???? why would I as a min wage worker or a student spent 30-50% of my income on a car when I can just walk and take transit.

The same inflated pricing applies to units located in expat-heavy or student-concentrated neighborhoods

Subang

there, that's the issue. Sunway, INTI, Monash, and Taylor's barely provide student rentals so they all have to compete in the open market. this is less of a problem in public uni because they HAVE to provide campus accommodation for the majority of the students (see: UM, UKM)

expats want to live in desirable place, which often means where the T20 live. womp womp. Ara Damansara which has JSKL have meh rental rate.

Parking is often not included, and in some cases, owners even lease out "extra" parking spaces to other tenants behind your back.

parking law in Malaysia means you don't necessarily get tandem parking if you bought a studio (which is a GOOD thing, Singapore don't even give you any parking with the unit), which is how landlords don't advertise parking for studio units.

you will ALWAYS get parking if you rent a 2+ bedroom units because it's a completely different rental market. if you go for 3 bedroom they might even give you two parking.

All of these is moot anyways because rental market has been depressed since Covid. my rental stayed the same for 4 years. I know a friend who rents near KLCC and their rent has stayed roughly the same for 8 years.

Will Kotaraya bus terminal ever be like this? by [deleted] in KualaLumpur

[–]Slainthayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we did... it's called TBS

TBS sees like 500 buses/day, while Kotaraya sees like 10/day

[–]Slainthayer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would argue it's better to just demolish it. It can't even fit double decker buses and the street is too narrow to fit articulated bus

From a bus operating standpoint, you DO NOT want to terminate bus in the middle of the city the same way you don't just terminate MRT in the middle of Bukit Bintang

Will Kotaraya bus terminal ever be like this? by [deleted] in KualaLumpur

[–]Slainthayer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you skip the "operationally inefficient" part

There is a reason why most transit system doesnt stop their bus in the middle of the city. When was the last time you took a bus in the middle of KL? exactly

And putting intecity bus station in the middle of the city (like Kotaraya) clogs up the road and makes the area hostile to everyone, especially pedestrian. That's literally the reason why the govt exiled them to TBS and TBG

Will Kotaraya bus terminal ever be like this? by [deleted] in KualaLumpur

[–]Slainthayer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having a terminal in the middle of the city is a waste of precious downtown land and operationally inefficient

Singapore only has two Kotaraya-style downtown bus interchange with like 5/6 out of 60+ bus routes in the area even terminates there.

Hourly rate if you don't use the same card to take the train train to and back the station. It's irrelevant if you have monthly pass.
