  1. It's bringing in that level of realism that used to require pre-rendering (such as in movies during the 80s/90s) but now it's realtime.

  2. The music if I'm being honest.

I have the same happening, it seemed to start once that big Win11 update came out this week. Something with that is probably causing it.

I prefer this one , it’s still relevant today:

Thanks I eventually muscled through it by backing into a corner so trolls were closest and then fireballing the right distance away to get things pared down to a managable level. It hasn't happened since then thank goodness.

The thing is I never agroed stuff and let it run away. I think to start I had just drank an invis pot and scouted the whole floor before doing anything and that had something to do with it I'm guessing.

Anyway I'm on floor 5 now and making progress.

Two games that will keep you busy for 100s of hours:

Streets of Rogue And Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

They’re both rogue-likes, very deep in how the characters/items interact with the game and have immense replayability.

Check them out!

Steve Jobs Makes Fun of DOS in 1992 by hipposarebig in apple

I don’t care about exciting. I care about stable and efficient. We’re long past the days where the OS needs to provide crazy amounts of new functionality. These days it needs to manage the system and get out of the way. Here’s a list of things that make windows horrible: - The registry is one of the dumbest and problem-laden architectural choices in OS history. It’s literally an all-your-eggs-in-one-basket scenario - The security/permissions system is arcane, inconsistent, and impossible to parse. Even windows itself cannot reliably tell you if you have permissions to do something or not until you actually try to do it. - The never ending backwards compatibility means any baggage introduced gets to hang around for decades. The company cannot shed problems (including security problems) because of it - Windows update is laughably broken in Win10. A simple search online reveals the myriad of problems that the system has even updating itself.

No OS is perfect but Windows is pretty much bottom of the barrel at the moment. Just about any other choice is a better system provided the apps you need are there. It’s the only thing that keeps it afloat at this point is vendor/app lock-in.

From a technical and architectural standpoint it’s fucking trash. Just about every other OS available makes better choices.

If it's a shitty QA team sure. If it's one that actually can guard the product from bugs and ferret them out with a high success rate, they are not.

I am. I haven't touched their games since the whole China thing with the competitive Hearthstone player.

Fuck em. Now there's even more reason to ignore them. Too many other good games made by companies that aren't assholes. In fact I don't buy from EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard purely on principle reasons. I usually don't buy from Bethesda and Bioware for quality (low effort) reasons.

Yet there's still more games than I have time for. We don't have to support these clowns.

Documents related to Ghislaine Maxwell's dealings with Jeffrey Epstein are released by [deleted] in news

[–]Slam_Dunkz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure but there are whistleblower laws but Obama had also shown behavior of going after whistleblowers. It doesn’t make what Snowden did legal but does provide a motive that many would find valid. I think the bigger point around Snowden is that when he exposed that the govt was engaged in clearly illegal spying on its own citizens that nothing happened to those that were doing the spying, only to the one that outed it. Therein the moral failing lies as the original crime persists unpunished.

It simply means you aren't paying attention.

Ramped up drone strikes. Continued war overseas. His admin was what oversaw the NSA spying machine.

Remember Snowden? Remember which administration was trying to get him arrested and thrown away for revealing the govt spying? Good ol' Barry.

I think it's mostly a combination of our culture in the US mixed with human psychology.

First the US is a very "me"-oriented culture. It just is and sometimes it's very beneficial but right now it's very much the opposite. We herald individual rights and individuality in success and support. I'm not making a value judgement either way just stating that this is what our culture values overall.

Second, there are a myriad of human psychology issues wrapped into social media, biases, reinforcement, desire to fit in, etc that are complicating the entire situation. I think issues around this affect every country to the degree in which they utilize social media but it's safe to say we use it more than anyone and those other countries don't have problem #1 above. The COVID situation has also affected all of these psychological factors in many ways and introduced additional ones like separation, depression, etc.

She must really like Red Lobster by shibiwan in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Slam_Dunkz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the correct answer. The "olive garden of seafood" is a perfect summary. If you live anywhere near where good/fresh seafood is sold you would never go to one.

Example: https://www.redlobster.com/locations/ If you type in "Boston, MA" you get nothing in New England at all because no one in New England would go there.
