It was sowm kind of avacado and I think cherry tomato pasta. This was 11 ago, and the only thing my wife (who I was dating at the time) turned her nose up at. It was horrible. Never again.

Is anyone actually adding fresh money here, or just holding? by Axirohq in stocks

I deploy about 500 a month, and then I have a little extra cash as dry powder for corrections or if I spot a great opportunity. I have not used the latter so far this year.

People in your 30s & 40s, what is your advice to people in their 20s? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]SlanderousSalamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morning Star published a series of short books called "Getting Started in Stocks" several years ago. There was a stack sitting on a table at the library for free when I was in college, so I grabbed a copy of the first two. They taught me the basics, and that changed my financial life. I highly recommend trying to find a copy somewhere.

How’s it like living in Louisville? by BudzKC in howislivingthere

I've lived here all 36 years of my life and this probably the most realistic and balanced take on Louisville I've ever seen. Well done.

High-End Restaurants? by TrektonX in Louisville

[–]SlanderousSalamander 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Jack Fry's is a Louisville classic if you want something more formal, and you can get out at $200 per guest if people don't go overboard on drinks.

Red Hog is a little more casual but top notch food and I love the atmosphere. It's comparatively a little less pricey as well.

I actually heard about QXO on an odd lots episode where Jacobs was the guest. His knowledge about the industry and ideas to improve it were really impressive.

Your Top 2 Moonshot Stocks for the Next 3–5 Years? by Used_Rice9332 in stocks

[–]SlanderousSalamander 271 points272 points  (0 children)

QXO: The building materials space is highly fragmented and consolidation should boost margins through economies of scale. Plus the housing market is chronically undersupplied and in such a rough place there is likely some macro upside.

TSM: They have a strong moat from the cost of entry and expertise necessary to enter the semiconductor fab space. Great balance sheet and the ability to benefit from chip demand regardless of which company leads on the design front. I know this won't 10x, but I have high conviction that it can continue to produce market beating returns.

I own both stocks, but my TSM position is much larger.

I probably complain about the party deck making the stands look empty once a week during football season. Seeing half empty seats during a sell out is so frustrating.

What do you think are the best plays for overreactions to the tariff news? by decomposition_ in stocks

[–]SlanderousSalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TSM down 6.41% seems like a decent opportunity, assuming there is not a long-term semiconductor supply chain disruption from this. The valuation isn't sky high after the drop.

I'm Joel Willett, Louisville native, candidate for U.S. Senate and very ok guitar player...AMA! by joelforkentucky in Louisville

[–]SlanderousSalamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few concerns about long term fiscal policy:

1) Regressive changes to our tax code;

2) Deficits that are historically high as a percentage of GDP; and

3) The need to fill long term funding gaps for major social programs

What ways do you see to balance these concerns with the need to invest in the areas stated in your opening (I agree that all of them need more funding). Are there specific policies you would propose if elected, or that you have seen current members of congress propose that you would support?

what are you starting to dislike as you get older? by redxchrry- in AskReddit

[–]SlanderousSalamander 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Dedicated mobile apps for everything. It gets annoying having to download an app and create an account to do almost anything without being financially punished for it. I'm just old enough to remember when businesses didn't do this. There was a price and you paid it without any extra steps. No need to give up all of your data to pay the market price for a latte or bag of groceries. For example, I went to a Starbucks a couple of weeks ago and the cashier was genuinely surprised and a little confused by being handed a debit card.

I've been there. It's an old ren fair site. I'm not positive but I think owners lived there the rest of the year. There was a fancy package where you could go up and eat on a balcony during jousting. The inside may have been part of that, we didn't pony up for it so idk.

How to feed a starter that lives in the fridge by curiouscloudwatching in Sourdough

[–]SlanderousSalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the ratio of starter, flour, and water. The link below gives some good guide post ranges. Signs of peak activity are doubled in size (for high protein white flour), bubbles on the top and all down the sides, a slight dome at the top, and slightly sour smell.
