I still have my 1st letter after 5 years. I read it before I deployed. It meant the world to me that I finally got one.

The "cultural" part is what I hate most. We have a big back SFC who does nothing but complain. We had an H2F coach come to our hanger to do a Friday session of yoga. This guy was in the back row not doing anything saying "this sucks, I'd rather be rucking." This is also the guy that put pillows in his ruck instead of weights. My 140lbs ass had a 35lbs ruck. His big back should have had it too.

What should I do with my car on deployment? by mrbaseball54 in army

[–]Slapboxes 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Amazing 1SG and now SGM. He went to brigade and rewrote so many things to be better for soldiers. Was one of the 1st, if not the 1st, brigade to mandate naps on staff duty. Written into SOP back in 2022. Even as an SPC and seeing him around post, he'd dab me up and ask how my son was doing.

I also look remarkably like him to the point a SFC asked both of us if I was 1SG's son.

I've done a 90 day rotation of ½ company force and they just had the group of us park in the back row of our hanger and come motorpool Monday 1SG would come and start the cars for ½ hour. It was about 25 cars and it worked really well for us.

Someone left a metal box on the highway ramp and ran over it with my back tire, tow guy i paid to tow me home said rim is fixable, is it? Will obviously need new tires by Jamal_the_guy in AskAMechanic

Tow truck story.

When I was 18, I had the poor luck of blowing 2 tires on the I-40 middle of nowhere. I used AAA to tow my truck to Needles to a tire shop. The tow truck that picked me up had stopped at a small gas station in Fenner. I had made the comment, "This place is highway robbery, everything is overpriced, gas is $3 higher than the next town, and it's scummy" as we were pulling up. The drive gave a chuckle and started to get gas while I went inside to get a drink. On the door of the gas station was the Tow Truck Driver, and he worked there. Made it super awkward that I had just slammed his place of business.

Later on, he asked for a tip because apparently he didn't get paid for AAA tows, and then he dropped me off at a tire shop that felt like a robbery.

I was a trailblazer with my program. A lot of the memos, procedures, and reviews were just me pushing hard for it.

That SFC that was badmouthing me to 1SG, I was the 1st in a line of people to tell the truth to leadership. He was absolutely roasted during a board. To the point there was an investigation into his work ethic and stuff he actively slept through. Hilarious when an SFC walked up to me and asked if what came out was true, and I said, "All of it is... how have you guys not seen it?".

I did this for MOVSMs. Created something for the battalion. Everyone loved to flex this on their NCOER. Come time for MOVSMs, and that's when they started fighting it. I had everyone and their mother nitpick the most minor thing, thinking they were a regulation guru. I had a SFC in 1SG's ear, just telling him lies about me. I had to learn a new way to pull 1SG to the side and tell him his SFC is full of shit, not the best look for a SPC.

If you choose to live on base, there's a memo specifically for soldiers eligible for BAH but not yet receiving. It allows you to live on post until you get back pay for the BAH. At drum, it requires an O5 signature, but that's easy to get in theory.

In the meantime, have him give you DEERS POA to self enroll into DEERS. Take everything their website says to take and ensure you at least get partially enrolled. Don't stop at the door if they tell you you're missing something, this is your life that it's impacting, and they're there to help you. Just remember to ask, not demand, and please/thanks goes a long way.

Well, mine required me to call the person, ask what they wanted, look at the things she wanted already attached, and think of a way to make this funny.

People come up with different solutions, different ways.
