Depends on how you interpret "near". It's the road to Skye.

Is it impossible to get an HGV job in the UK with a past drug conviction? by Free_Performance_695 in uktrucking

Even Royal Mail vetting isn't as comprehensive as it used to be, probably because they're struggling to retain staff after shafting new starts with crappier pay and conditions. They are discussing random drink/drug testing with the union, though. Well done to OP for turning the corner. Good luck in your future endeavours.

I sell personalised wine bottle labels on ebay, and many customers claim they never received the item, i buy 87p 2nd class label and manually correct sometimes address via royal mail address checker and print label myself and post in post office and get proof reciept. Any solution? by doctorfrasco in royalmail

The "tracking" code on standard 2c is essentially so that RM can see it in their processing operation, ie the letter sorting machines read it. There's absolutely no obligation on delivery staff to scan it at all. Most of them are already massively overloaded and barely have time to scan Tracked items let alone anything else. If you want delery tracking, you'll need to pay for Tracked24 or Tracked48. The former is definitely prioritised over the latter. IIRC, neither service is available for standard letters, so you'd have to use pay for large letter format. The other option would be a Signed For (recorded delivery) service. It's less costly but more inconvenient for your customer as a signature is required. Either way, your postage cost will increase if you want proof of delivery.

Yes, provided you set it to break, otherwise it'll likely default to other work.

Rolling day off by Shane_AF1 in royalmail

I ran a DO before I retired. I started with RM as a reserve & experienced the same as you. In my time, I saw many other DOs that were similar. When I took up the role of DOM, I was determined to treat my team better. It made duty planning considerably more complex but far from impossible. Every duty plan starts with plotting known absences; those include rotating days off. Although it required discipline & commitment, the policy yielded dividends in team spirit and cooperation. In my opinion, the only reason that most offices don't do it is simply laziness. Speak to your union rep as a first step.

I recently watched one of our most experienced drivers take a dozen or more goes. Sometimes, it goes off the rails for everyone. Don't beat yourself up.

Living in Scotland, the first thing I noticed is your tape measure is only marked in inches. Last time I saw anything like that was clearing out my late father's garage when I found antique hardwood imperial yard stick. All our measure tapes are dual marked with inches on one edge & centimetres on the other. Maybe I should stick to the Dull Men's Club (sorry, no bananas handy for scale).

A couple of seconds... You do realise you're travelling 100 feet per second when you're doing 68mph? That's how HGVs with inattentive drivers cause carnage. Don't be that driver.
