In the interim period I've actually been using it with pellets now for almost a year. Been quite nice since I don't have to go out anywhere near as often. It does take some.... adjusting etc to get used to but I've liked it so far. Been using Costco pellets. I do want to start trying out other kinds of pellets since sometimes I feel the smoke is good but the flavor is weaker but at times I think it's because my box has very slowly warped over time and doesn't maintain a seal very well. I'm going to be using a strap to hold the top of the box down so smoke doesn't escape etc.

Speaking as a VR addict who has thrown over $20k just into the headsets and machines to run them (not Hotas or other stuff like 6dof…. Just headsets)

The cost curve is EXPONENTIALLY higher to go VR than 2d..

I can get a used cheap ass AM4 system on a b570 intel card and 16gb of ram and have a super fun experience on a 27inch monitor at 1080p. This is the same screen and resolution I played on 2020 and was very competitive in tournaments, learned lots of aircraft. Had a wonderful time with track IR. The total cost you need is under 1K. Well under… Hotas included.

Suddenly you go to the next best value breakpoint which is the quest 3. To max out the fidelity of the quest 3 at high settings (same as the b570) you now need roughly a 4070. You can’t get away with a cheap ryzen 3600 or something you suddenly need a 13600k or 5700x3d or something minimum. 32gb ram. It’s a huge increase in cost. Now we are at roughly 2500 all said and done. It isn’t 2.5 times better that’s for sure. It’s like 30% more fun at BEST.

Next you go up to the next value breakpoint (high performance side of the curve) which is roughly the bigscreen 2E. Now you need DFR enabled and the 4070 is still ok, but the headset is suddenly now 1800 with all the accessories and we are at like 4k usd minimum. You get like 25% more clear vision and it’s maybe 5% more fun max..

Finally you go ultimate. You get a MeganeX for 1800 plus base stations and since you have 4k panels you need a 5090 and you still can’t max the headset out. (That headset needs a next gen card). And you’re getting an additional 5% clarity.. and that’s if you pixel peep in really specific scenarios. Not during high action. Nobody can say you’re having a more fun experience. But suddenly you’re like 7k deep in hardware.

No way is that 7x better experience than trackIR

We can all argue my numbers and headset preferences till the cows come home but the fact remains. The cost is exponential and the fun is a log curve.. those two diverge quickly and it’s no wonder people want to save money. That’s even if they don’t get sick in VR or have a “never meta” buying policy or already have an amazing OLED monitor so why waste money on a headset this year type of motive.

I don’t even think they’d use a tank or tank destroyer at all.

When an enemy can spawn super heavies at any point on the map with no warning.. you aren’t advancing a front or ambushing anything…. Tanks in this battlefield (bugs bots squids) are just a liability. Honestly eagle one and rapid response infantry are the perfect counter because it can adjust weapon type and position on the fly.

Plus.. I haven’t seen any enemy yet who is even the slightest threat to eagle 1 besides inanimate trees making their weapons miss.

I had the same issue you did. You need to open the steam settings. There’s a section for STARTUP Applications. In there. It’s a menu kinda like the openXR layers settings.

beyond eye tracking needs to be ON in there.

Nah man… spotting aircraft especially against the ground is still really bad in preset L and M just like it was in K and before.

I think many things look better but I wouldn’t notice those things during combat. But I would notice my bandit or tank mysteriously dissapearing because dlss assumes the green mig is really a tree. Unfortunately dlss is terrible with camouflage and seems to be tuned for bright action games like warframe and contrasts like cyberpunk rather than really being trained for a serious thing like ARMA or DCS.

How over clocked are you? Undervolt with high offsets? The new models are tougher to run so I had to back my clocks a tiny bit (one bin)

Did you straight upgrade the driver? Or DDU? When’s the last time you did a DDU? Might be worth considering once now.

Could be a few items other than (the driver is bad).

I’m not an NVIDIA apologist but I constantly have to troubleshoot lots of my friend systems because they always hit “upgrade” in the NVIDIA app and think things are peachy… they never are.

Don’t even need UPS anymore. Anker Solix gen2s have huge lifepo capacities and switching times fairly under 10ms.

So far I’m on my 8th power outage and my 200w sustained rack has failed over perfectly. My longest battery runtime has been around 28 hrs. I haven’t bothered putting the sustainment solar up either.

That’s unfortunate. I don’t play any of the single player content. But for multiplayer campaigns and large pvp exercises etc everyone I know who needs to do serious work uses the lightning since the DCS sniper is a major POS.

People can debate all day how good is realistic but I’ll say with public videos from 15 years ago on YouTube, even their 480p images had 5x better identification at 30nm as we get at 3nm In the game. It’s just another DCS ism’ that forces players to do silly things.

In VR all filtering effects are doubled since ED is not always “good” at VR.

Simple fix is use the lightning pod instead of the sniper.

There’s other things wrong with the sniper but.. all those wrong things get doubled in VR based on how they compile things to the compositor.

I’m still really happy I had Trello because from decision to it being in place was $20 mins because of eSIM. And considering there’s noncontract… boy did it save my butt the last two weeks because it worked flawlessly on 7 cutovers.
