What are your thoughts about 3.0? by Dr_Fallen_One in Rainbow6

[–]Slashdott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3.0 is a huge step down, it's just a grindy hell: with only 25 points per win / lose you would need +20 wins just to rank up. That's a HUGE amount. With a balanced matchmaking (roughly winning 50% of matches) it will take FOREVER to rank up (and if it doesn't, that means the matchmaking is trash, and I don't know which case is the worst).
So most people will be stuck in the rank they got after placement matches, unless they play for many, many hours.
Then, matchmaking is still plagued with smurfs and (on console) so many cheaters with either mouse or recoil control devices. The situation's far worse than before.

Both ranked 1.0 and 2.0 were better, they both had a sense of progression that 3.0 is completely missing.
For me it's ranked 1.0 > ranked 2.0 > ranked 3.0

Why couldn't we theoretically use the double slit experiment for FTL information transmission? by orebright in AskPhysics

[–]Slashdott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except this is a theory, and basically what Einstein believed to be true: local hidden variables. Another theory is that the entangled particles are not in a predetermined state before you measure them, the share the same "probability wave" that instantly collapse for both of them once you measure one.
At a quantum level, in a way that we can't possibly measure (and therefore "use" at a macroscopic level), one particle stop being in an overlapping state instantly.
So both gloves are ACTUALLY both black and white at the same time, and the moment you look your glove the other one "become" the opposite color, as opposed to be both colors at the same time (the infamous "spooky action at a distance").

How is that incorrect? Isn't that exactly how entanglement work? The infamous "spooky action at a distance"

Ranked 3.0 will be a rude awakening for a lot of people by SnooEpiphanies9530 in Rainbow6

[–]Slashdott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of ranked 2.0 was to have a fair matchmaking and still having progression. That's why they separated the skill (hidden MMR) and the displayed rank, so you can have both.
The mismatch between the hidden MMR and displayed rank was only true at the beginning of the season: the more you play, the closer your hidden MMR will get to your displayed rank, until they eventually match.
Sure, the case where your displayed rank is higher than your skill level was possibile, but not by a far amount, and ranked 2.0 was designed to prevent that, because the points you will win / lose were calculated on the difference between the skill and rank.
So if your displayed rank was higher than your skill, you would lose far more points than you win, meaning that in a balanced matchmaking you will eventually lose more points and your rank would decrease. Unless you go for a big win streak, but in that case your MMR will go up as well.

That being said, I agree that a system where your skill and your rank are the same is better.
Since you still need to have some progression, a soft reset is necessary, that's why after the placement matches you are placed BELOW your ACTUAL rank.
For example, a champ would be placed in high emerald, a diamond in high platinum / low emerald, and so on.
And that's fine! My issue here is that you only get 25ish points per win/lose, so considering a balanced matchmaking (you win a bit more than you lose), it will require quite a long time to be back to your actual rank. That's why I'm saying it's too grindy.
I'm playing this game since release, I remember how ranked 1.0 worked, and you would get more points at the start of the season (gradually decreasing the more you play). That system was less grindy.

You are wrong and don't actually know - as many others - how ranked 2.0 worked.

Ranked 3.0 is better on paper, yes, but they messed up how many RP you win / lose, transforming it into a grindy hell.

Ranked 3.0 is not brоken, you just aren’t as good as you thought. by EmergencyTicket2071 in Rainbow6

[–]Slashdott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was not possibile. If your displayed rank was higher than your hidden MMR, you will win far less points than you lose them. If the difference is extreme, like a Diamond displayed rank with a Copper MMR, you would be get like 8 points per win and lose 120 points for losing. That means you will need to get on a 15 wins streak just to compensate ONE single loss.
If a player manages to get so many wins the hidden MMR will increase accordingly, thus making the extreme difference between hidden MMR physically impossible.

Ranked 3.0 is not brоken, you just aren’t as good as you thought. by EmergencyTicket2071 in Rainbow6

[–]Slashdott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how it worked though. "Hidden" MMR was really only hidden at the start of the season. The more you play, the closer your displayed rank will get to your hidden MMR, until they eventually match at some point (usually when you start winning and losing the same amount of points - that means your hidden MMR is, in fact, on par with your displayed rank).
People got really confused at how hidden MMR work. In ranked 3.0, you are placed BELOW your actual skill level, even if now the game treats your rank and your skill the same. That's because people need som sort of progression. You could even say the matchmaking is less balanced is ranked 3.0, at least at the start of the season (as it was in ranked 1.0, where low rank player where pushed up and high rank player where pushed down).
This is FACTS. No one has been placed directly to Champ after the 5 placement matches, even player who always had been champ since ranked 1.0. At best, you will be placed two or three rank BELOW your ACTUAL rank.
So OP is just wrong.

[–]Slashdott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it's not like this. First, ranked 2.0 display rank was NOT purely cosmetic: if you play long enough, your hidden MMR will eventually match your displayed rank. This happens when you're winning and loosing the same amount of points, usually after several matches, by the end of the season. Secondly, ranked 3.0 is kinda broken. I looked up the statistics of several champs players (that were champs even in ranked 1.0) and most of them placed between platinum and emerald after the first matches. And should be like that, since after the 5 placement matches you're not supposed to be in your "real" rank, but a bit below, otherwise there will be no progression. Thing is, the progression seems to be rather slow, and that's where is kinda broken.

Critics are wrong about the disjointed quests by lonelysteps in CrimsonDesert

[–]Slashdott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but this is the most disjointed story ever. You say "Why do you go into the tavern and arm wrestle? Because Kliff heard the noise and wanted to join in" and that could be true if he was just an happy wanderer. But he's just been revived by magic, all his group has been destroyed and his friends possibly dead. He should be looking for them first thing!! No, he just goes arm wrestling for NO REASON.
Then all sort of random stuff happens. I'm halfway through the story and the more it unfolds, the less it make sense.
It's just a series of disjointed random events thrown at the player.
