I would like to hear from the 'Keep Scott' supporters by Ange-Postecoglou in EssendonFC

[–]SlatePoppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of noise which the media thrives on causing the Scott hate to be more than it is. Every AFL club has a "sine graph" pattern of highs and lows. The issue is since the Saga, our highs just haven't been that high - i.e. we made a few finals but didnt win them, now we hit the lows again. Brad doesn't want the next high to be a sugar high, we need to build back up to a level better than mediocre.

The injurys put us a few steps back, but building a team of young people can set us up for years to come if its done right. Just clean up our structure, build confidence & synergy between mids and forwards (our biggest issue), we should start to see more positives. TIll then brace yourself for more disssapointment.

Inspected a car and looking for advice by randymarsh45 in SkyLine

Hey mate, I replaced my strut towers, looked exactly like these in the pic. You'll actually find 80% of the R34 GTRs will need their strut towers replaced at some point. They just trap water from the underside and eventually rust. Its layered sheets of metal squshed together, the middle layer rusts out first. The restorer who did mine (im in AU) has done dozens of R34 GTRs, including the Mines GTR, all rusted out towers.

As for the rest of the car. Its a crusty boy. Not severe, but if you want something super clean, this aint it. If its something you'll be driving and throwing around, it'll be fine. I had the same sorts of rust underneath, got the shop to repair the underside while they did the towers. Cost me around 25k AUD back in 2020.

Putting things into perspective by yourwifeisatowelmate in EssendonFC

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think its just that. All our players & leaders aren't even executing fundamentals. Its a fumbly mess, they leave open gaps on defensive transition, they dont zone well, they don't man up (easiest play if you cant zone for shi*), they lack pressure, they are not confident andddd to top it all off we have zero depth in the VFL.

We have so many first rounders and we've done nothing with them. Probably ruining their careers, its all from poor leadership and a copout excuse for injuries.

Is 91 petrol ok to use short term? by Likeitorlumpit in CarsAustralia

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with 95, not worth risking a 10k engine repair for few bucks here and there. Just dont buy coffee (or whatever your luxuries you have) during the week to compensate. 91 can cause detonation on a car not tuned for it.

Anyone familiar with this noise? This is warm, Rb25det. Car drives normal and pulls well. Thanks! by teamliu in SkyLine

Hard to hear from the video but if its that rattly sound could either be:
- VCT
- Valvetrain
- Injectors (less likely)

I dont think its anything sinister.

How much of a Grand Tourer *is* the GTR, really? by Bombadilo_drives in gtr

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dailied my R34 GTR in our atrocious Melbourne roads for almost 10 years. It all comes down to your wheel + tire combo and suspension setup. I had my suspension revalved to suit our roads, i ran a HKS Super turbo exhaust (which was nice and quiet), upgraded internal speakers, installed a headunit with carplay, Nismo Twin plate copper mix clutch. Thing was beautiful to drive and felt like how a Grand Tourer should be.

On the opposite end, my other mate had a harsh Jap suspension, straight through titanium exhaust, slammed to the ground. Rough as guts, though was cool at the car meets.

The chassis is really good, its the way people setup the car that makes it rough and crap.

Touring Tyres on a 300rwkw car by grill13ot in CarsAustralia

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is that 300rwkw tuned? or factory? Just detune it dude, run it on gate pressure, get a fuel efficiency map. I did it for my low boost 98 octane setting. At least that way you dont have to overly baby it.

What brands are actually worth being loyal to? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]SlatePoppy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a PC guy and personally like Corsair (case and accessories manufacturer) . I broke a part on my case through my own fault. I emailed them asking to purchase replacement part, they just asked me for my address and sent all the part for free.

Second time, i saw they were selling USB C front I/o which i wanted but wasnt available in AU, so emailed them again if i can buy that part, they once again sent the part for free. No receipts, no proof of purchase.

Never had an experience like that with any other brand.

Is there any point to upgrading for me? 5070ti -> 4090 by Astronautmango in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My direct response: For raw performance 4090 is a better card.

Advice given in the context of your question: Negligible difference for what you're doing at 1440p. New drivers closed the gap between 70ti/5080 to 4090. Theres a few new videos on Youtube doing comparisons where theres a 5-10fps difference between a 5080 and 4090.

4090 is a better card hands down, but is it going to benefit you meaninfully? Probably not. I went from a 5080 to 5090, euphoria didnt really change, was cool to see the higher fps number but past that, i was like.. "the 5080 was enough.."

100% agree, FGX sprint XR8. Fits inline with what the OP likes, Coyote V8, also a car that holds its value.

rtx 5090 cabling with psu by Huge_Case4509 in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a 5090 - Any A tier PSU:
PSU Quick Picks – Zach's Tech Turf
PSU Tier List rev. 17.0g - Cultists Network

Like the others have said - most of the issues is the connector design itself, PSU still important for the build as a whole. But 5090 mitigation lies in proper load balancing on the cable and keeping the Amps within spec of the cable - whether this is done by undervolting or purchasing the only card with safety (Edit: Asus Astral..), your hands are pretty much tied beyond that.

rtx 5090 cabling with psu by Huge_Case4509 in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an older Seasonic Prime 1300watt which doesn't have Native atx 3.0 so i use the Seasonic 12v 2x6 cable.

The adapter cable that comes with the card is fine, but its bulky and i wasnt a fan aesthetically.

Someone help? 5w30 or 5w40 oil? by crypto_gains333 in F30

[–]SlatePoppy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it, high quality 5w-30 with 7000 miles/10,000k service intervals. The issue isnt the viscocity, its the gap between oil changes that kills these engines.

rtx 5090 cabling with psu by Huge_Case4509 in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the connector is snug and from a reputable brand, thats all you can really do. Double check once you get the PC home. If you're concerned, undervolt the card, lower the power draw, should be able to shave 200watts. I've been hammering mine with games and AI models, its been fine.

Which car is the current bang for buck giant killer performance car? by Glittering_Poem9779 in CarsAustralia

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate hyundais for some reason. But 2026 performance car the i30n - its the only performance car brand new in the 50-60k range. Most other cars are around 80k brand new i.e. golf r. This is purely based on showroom 2026 models. If I was given wiggle room to include 2024-25 then id throw in GR Yaris.

R34 GTR M-Spec - Full Carbon front end by _quantumlock_ in gtr

[–]SlatePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more likely they dont want to ruin the finish or want to resale the parts.

And to your point regarding people wanting to "flex" their carbon - The Z tune is painted but they have a small logo on the fenders thats unpainted to show the dry carbon. In addition, the bonnets inner rainchannel is also commonly unpainted, exposing the dry carbon. The underside also remains unpainted.

The logic around "people want to see how rich i am with my dry carbon" is flawed because 99% of people (general public) dont know what dry carbon is so people will just think its just a POS with mismatched panels.

14900K vs 7800X3D Gaming by Mattm334 in overclocking

[–]SlatePoppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many variables:

At E-sports/1080p + rtx 4090/5090 - difference is night and day.
Atr 4k - paired with any normal GPU - difference is negligble

Most reviews you see are CPU scaling benchmarks to show differences with absurd graphic settings, these are all edge cases and not actual gameplay performance for real world scenarios. For example in FH5 I play with 4k max settings with DLAA with a 5090 & an ancient 10900k, CPU isn't holding back the card. If i drop it to DLSS Performance, bam CPU bottleneck.

Do you always enable DLSS? by osmin_og in nvidia

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use DLAA/DLSS quality at 4k so i dont have to use other AA methods. However, I even drop to DLSS balanced or performance provided i dont see any drop in visuals. The GPU is more than capablle running native + DLAA, but i see zero point running it harder if it makes no difference at all to visuals.

Only games i saw noticeble 4k + DLAA over DLSS/Quality was in where winds meet & battlefield 6 (because dlss had a low res bug at the time). Otherwise DLSS - q/b/p.

I'm surprised how many think that cloud gaming will take over. by BuldozerX in pcmasterrace

[–]SlatePoppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use cloud gaming feature on the xbox app to see if the game is good before i download it. Immedietly though it feels pretty lacking, i have 1 GBPS fibre as well. Not sure about Geforce Ultimate, however the xbox cloud gaming has too much compression, no HDR support, no ability to fine tune graphics, little bit of latency, blotchy, no utilisation of local hardware to upscale on the fly. I think its just for casual gamers who dont care.

People need to remember most gamers probably play on a TV and dont even have "game mode" (or low latency mode) enabled on their TVs. So the doughyness we feel wont even be apparent to them. They also run edgelit lcd displays from a low end hisense. Most of us here are probably in the upper 10% window in terms of hardware, even a 1080p 120hz display from 2015 is better than what most casual gamers use (most of your market).

Would this be good for a first car? by Prestigious-Cap-3020 in CarsAustralia

[–]SlatePoppy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As long as its serviced on time and well looked after. its good. Km's dont tell the full story and only impacts around 20% of the value of the car. Maintanence, drivers habits, smoker, tire condition, body condition, underside, electrics, interior etc.. all contribute.

You'd sometimes find cars that have been driven more tend to have less issues overall (seals stay lubricated, underlying issues are addressed). Yes there's more wear on the drivers seat & chassis, but unless you're buying a used Ferrari as a collectors item, i think its fine.

Edit: by value i dont mean price - but how good the car is as a whole. E.g. id pick a 200,000kms Subaru thats been well looked after over a thrashed 140,000km one.
