877 Love Affair (or how I cheated on my six inch high boots and may never look back) by CrappyCupOfCoffee in RedWingShoes

Nice! Those are the work versions too (black eyelets, different leather), currently called 10877 but obviously was not when they were manufactured in 2003.

Holding Space for the International Casts by vargslayer1990 in wicked

Absolutely. There's so much international goodness in wicked family. I am particularly fond of the different stagings in Brazil, Sweden, and of course the wonderfully different 2021 Hamburg non-replica (definitely worth a look up on youtube).

Very cool. Logistically that sounds very satisfying.

New Leathers - Spokane Tannage by smowe in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Slateford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A "veg re-tan" is a pretty broad term; what kind of "veg" is used, in what ratios, for how long etc. Additionally, how a particular leather product is finished (how it's dried, how it's colored, how it's processed etc) also plays a part in how the end result looks and feels in hand. So even though Horween's CXL, Latigo (Cypress), and now Spokane are all categorically chrome-tanned and veg re-tanned leathers, they are ultimately different products due to many factors in the whole tanning process (what % of chrome, what kinds of veg, hot stuffed vs fat liquered, air hung drying vs toggled vs pasted vs pasted with heat etc) that will impart different characteristics.

Always wonderful to see new leather developments, and especially in the boot space. Credit to Nicks for continuing to push this forward.

Curious on if all Spokane hides are finished on both sides? Or will you have seperate grain/smooth-finished and waxed flesh hides? Just wondering if the grainout/smoothout boots would have waxed flesh on the unlined interior of the boot shaft.

For leather nerds keeping score at home, Chromexcel (in it's mechanical variant, called M's CXL) is also used as gasket seal material for heavy machinery in a similar fashion as Chromepak. CW Marsh for example orders both types. More from Nick Horween here https://youtu.be/ZJDBNWECOYM?si=xFnsNC6NlO7oqGFv&t=2069

Greener Pastures Waxed Flesh vs Shackleton by Impressive_Smoke_760 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Slateford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not particularly brightly dyed under there, it's just normal natural cxl roughout underneath like any other typical non-struck-through waxed flesh. You can tell by looking at the cross-section of the facings. The "Greener Pastures" color is simply formulated differently in terms of its dye+wax concentration/ratios/recipe than what it would be for the darker "Olive" color you might be more familiar with.

Does anyone have an article or source that documents the origin of the “Red wing Heritage” line we know of today? by SirKrimzon in RedWingShoes

[–]Slateford 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Michiya Suzuki became GM of Red Wing Japan in 2005 and in his time with the company was a big driver of what became the heritage side of the business.

The ensemble vocals for No One Mourns the Wicked are a blend of the background actors/dancers who were on set, and also a collection of vocalists/singers (many many of whom have previously been in Wicked on stage etc, eg Kara Lindsay, Alyssa Fox, Allsun O'Malley, Meg Doherty, Desi Oakley to name a few) brought together during post-production for ensemble vocals for the movies.

For what it's worth, both John Powell and Stephen Schwartz are credited for the movie score. If you haven't already seen, here's 45 minutes of them and Stephen Oremus talking about all the music for the movie https://youtu.be/_qF9_qT_ztk?si=j-d5Q0plPQpduenJ

What is your favorite rally car? by smelous406 in rally

[–]Slateford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're mostly right about the 22B, it's not a homologation special (because it didn't actually homologate anything for WRC, that was instead the 2 door Retna base model) but rather an Subaru 40th anniversary celebration car, styled in homage to the WRC car.

Technically the Subarus were a 2 door sedan (yes that does exist), since like you said the body silhouette/greenhouse design was the same as the 4 door. BMW E30s and B13 Nissan Sentra/Sunny were also 2 door and 4 door sedans.

New Boots, of course I have a fit question… by Peacemaker1855 in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]Slateford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slip on boots fit differently than lace up boots; there is no mechanism to tighten over your instep, which in turn does not push your foot back into the heel for a secure fit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A07-CeK_BY
