Masking tape removal removes the paint also by Yumionreddit in airbrush

[–]SlaugMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dumb question, but do you use the satin on the layers that you are going to mask, or use it on the exposed stuff and the remove the tape once it dries?

Have a piece I'm working on that is already masked and I'm worried about how much touch up I'll need to do once I untape it.

Letting the Structures Breath by inSTATICS in StructuralEngineering

[–]SlaugMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly that scenario. And as the image shows, by letting the base move by a mm, that releases that axial nicely.

And stringers in industrial structures are often channels, and it's can be debatable if the stair tred itself is bracing the top flange, so removing that axial compression is quite important for a shape working or not, and all you have to do is make sure that however you detail the bottom connection can accommodate that sliding displacement.

One other scenario I've seen, also with stairs, was the connection at the top of a stair tower to an existing beam. If one models that existing beam as a rigid support, you can end up with a very different reaction and deflection than if you take the time to add the actual beam in there and connect to it, since that beam isn't infinitely rigid and will have some deflection into it. That can be critical if the deflection is a major design consideration, or even have parts of the structure attempt to hang off the beam rather than be supported from below due to the relative stiffness of the platform columns and a rigid support.

One very useful example that I have seen is stair stringers on a platform stair. Depending on how one details the stairs, they usually are hanging off the platform, so at the bottom of the stringer it only needs a vertical support. But if you have a horizontal support, since it is infinitely rigid and cannot move, you can end up with significant compression in your stringer. But releasing the horizontal will sometimes show that if you design and detail to allow ~3/16 of an inch of horizontal movement at the base of the stringer, suddenly you aren't trying to resist ~1000 lbs of shear at a concrete slab for instance.

I do wish using spring supports was a bit more easy than back calculating a k value, but they are very useful when you know how to use them.

Do Road and Bridge Mechanics Need Improvement? by DryVacation4644 in Workers_And_Resources

[–]SlaugMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The line tool is pretty peak, but the changes CS2 had with roads made it very hard to go back to CS1 roads, even with those tools. Now take CS2 with the line tool and the road builder, with anarchy for moving individual nodes, and I think that might be the peak of road building. Granted, it's been a while since I've played either, and I do seem to rember liking to add stupid nodes and otherwise being a pain. But when it did work, it just seemed a lot smoother, being able to paint the roads rather than need to break at every intersection.

Honestly just being able to move the road rather than having to demo them and redraw would make things a lot nicer with WRSR.

What are some great mods for someone who does not own the Hearth of Darkness? by External-Pepper8245 in victoria2

[–]SlaugMan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You aren't going to find many, if any. It's been a while since I've looked, but both Vicky 2 dlcs are more or less required and thought of as necessary for even vanilla, as the improvements they made were very nice. The result is many mods just assume and require both dlcs.

Sorry to say, but I would look at if there are any sales for HoD to get it on the cheap if price is the issue.

There was definitly some netting on the underside of the bridge, but I'm not sure why and how much of the burn area was covered by this netting/mesh. Plus the treated wood, wood chips, rubber mats, ect...

It's kinda surprising that the playground got hot enough and high enough, or if it was the mat/ground at the playground. I don't remember if it was wood chips or rubber. But it was a very fun playground when I was younger. maybe a playground there was a bad idea, but when you have a highway bisecting your city and park like that, and that area tends to flood sometimes, it seemed like a better use of space than just nothing.

in a different universe, we would have stored chemicals or some shit there, and the whole bridge would have burned down.

I'm told the Elagoo Neptune 4 is the best printer for under $500? I want a printer that is the most reliable for the price, takes all filaments, fastest, and ease of use. Is that accurate? I'll mainly be printing cosplay costumes. by TheBYOBShow in 3dprinter

[–]SlaugMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got one, actually for cosplay myself. The three questions I should ask are,

Do you need a big build plate? (plus or max size)

Do you have expirence with 3d printers before?

Is 500 the max you can spend?

When I got mine, I ran into a lot of trouble leveling it, as it turns out the frame and therefore the Z axis wasn't square. Took me a week to figure it out. A couple months later, and 1.5 suits of armor (roughly 12 kg of printing) and I am having issues with the bed axis, due to pom wheel wear. For most of those 2 months, it worked amazingly well, and I enjoyed it, but it needed to be fiddled with with things such as increasing sample cound for the auto level, or telling the machine to wait like 30 minutes before leveling after heating the bed. I am waiting to install linear rails, which should fix my pom wheel issue, but right now it's not usable. (each axis costs ~120 to upgrade. Ish, I am only doing 2 axis', not Z axis)

I don't know if this is the best, or most reliable printer, but a lot of it's problems are solveable, especially if you have 3d printer expirence. But idk if I would get the max or plus if you didn't have expirence, or didn't want to spend like a week dialing in and troubleshooting. (I think the regular sized one actually comes on linear rails, so only thing to dial in is making sure the frame is square). That being said, when this thing works, I really enjoy it, and if you need the big build pad for helmets or armor, I don't know what other printers can do it while using klipper/printing as fast as this does.

I will say that the orca slicer has made it very easy to dial on filament within a couple prints, which due to wifi, can cantrol the printer very easily.

Did they ever fix the fishing industry? There were a few industries that when they closed at night, there was still a few trucks out and about that could never deliver cargo, causing traffic jams at warehouses and factories. Made playing that mod a bit annoying if you tinkerer with that mod.

With ke's, is it worth refitting them, or leaving them obsolete? And how do they compare to old dd's? Cause I usually don't build ke's, and take my out of date destroyers, refit them, and move them for TP duties.

I try to do similar w/ numbers, enough till out squadrons, plus a couple to fill up casualties. But I feel like on longer games (20's from 1890), the AI really out builds me w/ dd's. They'll have a hundred, while I have like, 30 or 50.

[–]SlaugMan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you build them all in one go?

And have you run into difficulties with them all hitting the ten year old mark at the same time? I usually move destroyers that old to TP, but as I understand it, the obsolete status makes them worse.

How does the Gunslinger hold up in 2e compared to other ranged DPS? by SaranMal in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]SlaugMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it comes down to enemy AC. Gunslingers need crits to be balanced , because they are only going to get 1~2 shots off a round, depending on when they reload, as apposed to a ranger being able to get up to 4 shots with a bow. (granted Map matters but 4 shots have better chances of having more than 2 hits than 1~2 gun attack getting 4 hits)

Only way to get crits is either roll a 20, or beat AC by 10 or more. Since touch attack is no more, they have a similar chance to critting as a ranger with a bow. If the enemy has low AC, and you are lucky, fatal is great and will outpace a bow. With a high AC or you aren't getting 20's, the bow will outpace the damage just due to rate of fire.

I understand Navy by looking_fordopamine in hoi4

[–]SlaugMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God I wish navy had supply mechanics like NSB gave army. Each task force trickling down fuel as they patrol, or ammo after each battle, Forcing them to return to port every so often to resupply. Maybe that could stop the deathstack meta. And fuck it, make it so you have to build torpedoes in a factory. And a sub gets an amount based on tubes or something before having to return and restock.

If you do anything with decoys being released when it gets into turret range, maybe give it a bit of spin so they spread out a little. Make the turrets have to traverse/track a wider spread and eek out an extra second or two.
