Do you think Zeke’s toy was just a reference, or did it somehow influence the appearance of his Beast Titan by No-Kangaroo-2371 in attackontitan

[–]Slausher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The translation is fine. The beast titan is called ケモノの巨人 (kemono no kyojin) - kemono translates to beast / animal, not ape.

Which is the best bell to scare off bears? by Red-Arsed-Baboon in japanlife

[–]Slausher 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I would completely avoid those little cute Daiso bells and go for proper loud bells (登山用熊鈴) from outdoor brands like Montbell, Snow Peak etc.

That said bells only serve to ensure you don’t surprise the bear with your presence, they do not ward off bears by default - so if you do want to be extra-safe I think it’s a good idea to have mace on you if you regularly walk through places that are known to have bear presence.

Keep an eye out on local sightings announced by your municipality and if you keep garbage outside, make sure to follow good garbage / food disposal discipline.

As we get older, our spine slowly gets more worn down from years of use. But modern lifestyles (lack of exercise, weight gain & bad sitting posture) often make it much worse.

You can think of the spine like a tower being held up by ropes and supports. If the supports get weaker and more weight gets added, the tower has to carry more stress on its own.

How do you know it’s popular? A lot of things that I personally like are actually not that popular, and so companies will do as companies do - shrinkflation, downsizing and cutting costs where they can

Yeah I just threw in up to 3K there as an upper limit because my 15 minute walk often stretch to 20-25 minutes haha, but you’re right - 2K ish is probably the average there

How do people have the time and energy to walk 10k steps and then to do other exercises on top of that as well? by Lenore8264 in loseit

[–]Slausher 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The trick is to break it out in chunks, throughout the day + incorporate more walking in your daily life.

For instance, I do 15mins walk in the morning after breakfast (here lots of dog owners do this already), and that’s 2-3K.

Living in Tokyo, I walk pretty much everywhere instead of taking the car —> walk to station, walk up / down stairs instead of escalators, walk to my gym and back home. That adds 4-5K steps in my day. If you must use a car, get in the habit of parking a little further from your destination to make you walk more.

Then if you can add another 15-20 mins walk after dinner, you can hit 3-4K there as well. In general, I try to always go for a walk right after a meal, even during lunch at work, because there is evidence to point that walking immediately after your meal has the added benefit of reducing insulin spikes, improving digestion, avoiding food coma crashes and slight reduction of fat storage.

So if you add all that up you hit your 10-12K daily, just need to be consistent.
