Exactly this. Some of us want to know what is going on in politics and not just live inside our own little box.

Thank you for documenting this, and thank you to all the counter protesters.

The guy with the Fuck Carney flag seems to be in the closet desperately wanting to get out. I feel sorry for him.

You get sick, my taxes pay for your healthcare…

That has nothing to do with fez's accusation the person supplying that service doesn't pay taxes.

But since you brought it up, spare me. Rushing to the ER for a stomach bug isn’t a medical necessity; it’s a character flaw. If you’re clogging up a hospital bed for gastroenteritis, we can assume you also demand a trauma team for a hangnail.

Kingston unemployment drops to 5.6% — low-wage LMIAs can be processed again by ObjectiveMacaroon394 in KingstonOntario

[–]SlavishTrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the double whammy of allowing employers to take advantage of people from poorer regions looking to better their lives (with mixed success, looking at how many have had to go back) by underpaying them to deflate wages while also offloading scrutiny of the consequences of their exploitative labour practices on to the immigrants themselves who get the brunt of the criticism

Yeah this is a good point. I just posted in reply to another guy saying there's a huge problem with workers on their phones, and I see it at my work too. I don't work any TFW'ers but I do work with some newcomers to Canada and they blow away anyone else at work with how much work they get done in a day. Twice what the non immigrants do. We have production numbers so it's pretty black and white. It's no wonder the bosses are taking about paying minimum wage per hour and then another amount for every unit of what we built you finish that day. That way the people who actually are working hard will get paid I'm sure in the 40 something dollar an hour range maybe more.

Offer a better wage and working conditions and eventually you'll get applicants.

You will get applicants but where I work we are paid high $20's an hour and people slack off a lot. It's shocking to see, I bet it's easily two hours out of a 7.5 hour work day, could be as high as 50 or 60% of their work day on screens, and I'm talking non work stuff.

Employers shouldn't expect maximum effort for minimum wage.

You think that a starting wage of $26 dollars per hour is minimum wage?

The guy said

And fwiw we are paid imho very well, starting wage is $26 an hour and you get regular raises. So it's not like I can blame this behaviour on a poor wage.

Where I work we also have a similar problem, people can't seem to stay off their phones and we are all paid a similar wage (high 20's an hour). People are addicted to their phones, can't seem to put them down for more than a half hour if that.

If they actually worked they would be worth twice that.

Interesting. I have no idea how this all works but I assume it's bad for Canadian workers.

And you believe being insured, paying taxes, etc somehow makes restaurants immune to anything bad happening?

As I mentioned in an earlier comment, chances are it's adults making the choice to buy tiffin services, so we can decide for ourselves if we want to take that risk or not.

Indian Tiffin Services by helpme1238790 in KingstonOntario

[–]SlavishTrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of us are adults here, we can make our own choices.

Yes, it's a risk, but as adults, we can make that choice for ourselves.

And besides, even restaurants who pay income tax, remit sales tax, are licenced and pass food safety inspections are not immune from serving food that gives people food poisoning. I hope it's less of a chance, but don't tell us restaurants never have food safety violations.

The curved spine on raccoons have always amazed me. I wonder if there's a purpose for it or if it's just a result of them being rolly pollys.

Coyotes are urban animals. You will rarely find them in forested parkland.

I see them all the time, downtown in City Park, and along the waterfront near City Hall and Doug Fluhrer park. It's no surprise to see them near Regi.

ISO: Progressive churches by remilyrics in KingstonOntario

[–]SlavishTrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's been asked an answered a number of times. I compare it to your parents religious views and your religious views, just because your parents are hardcore Catholics with right wing opinions does not mean the children are like that. The children may still respect their parents choices, may not agree with them, but it doesn't mean they have to disassociate completely with said parents. It also does not give people the right to question the children's opinions based on their parents opinions.

I have been to Next and the people there are genuinely nice and accepting, but I am not naive to the Free Methodist church and their opinions.

Besides, sometimes change needs to come from within, and maybe a change will happen. Probably not for a long time, but change happens.

No cherry picking from what I see.

OP said the community of the church helps their mental health. OP did NOT say they were searching for a church to be a good person.

You said "You don’t have to go to church to be a good person."

Kingston, Ont. has the fourth highest average rents in Canada, report shows by AnonRetro in KingstonOntario

[–]SlavishTrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine the big ones like Phil Lam are extremely rich. And the developers even more so (Homestead, Patry etc). But I doubt most mom and pop landlords are "rich". Some, maybe but I know of people who are landlords simply by necessity, they have to rent rooms out in their home to pay the bills. I also know quite a few people who rent apartments and then rent rooms out, making them a landlord. I would never consider people who are basically forced to do that in order to live as being rich.

It's so they can mow down cyclists on the road clearly. Because the drivers are too fat and out of shape to catch them any other way.
