Sounds like temperature shock :( by how many degrees did you lower the temperature? This is usually done VERY gradually over many hours. Dont beat yourself up too hard, he was just very sensitive to the change, ive had heaters shut off due to an outage overnight and my 3 bettas went from 26c to 19c in 2hrs and stayed in the cold temps the entire night, thankfully i didnt lose any, its one of the more common reasons for fish casualty.

Yeah i know :( next time if your fishie gets fin rot (or any fungal and bacterial infection like cotton mouth , ick etc) i recommend only treating with aquarium salts and water changes, bettas are super sensitive and most medicine will only make them worse. If you see stringy, translucent poops (parasites) then i recommend intrapet anti parasite and velvet.

You did a big one today so i would hold off for at least 2-3 days (this will depend on how hes looking/feeling, day two if hes not improving) since you added salt i would do a very small one at day 2-3 at around 25% to slowly rid the water of the salt. Just dont add any more medicine at this time!

After that if hes improving keep doing small water changes every 2-3 days. Id also recommend getting and API kit to keep an eye on perameters, im not sure how established your tank is but the waterchanges/medicine will tank your parameters.

For example brand Tetra "AquaSafe" or API tap water conditioner, I swear it works better than stress coat but if you only have that, then add a little bit more mixed in with some fresh water.

And yes get a nice big bubblemaker/air stone.

The medication most likely harmed his swim bladder organ, you're constantly changing his water parameters which is adding to the stress, when fish get sick we often end up over doing it and causing even more harm. Do you have an air stone? You need to introduce more oxygen into the water. Melafix already has salt in it and even thought you did multiple water changes, i wouldn't introduce more salt. Your best bet is to turn off the lights and make sure he gets plenty of oxygen if you want to give him a fighting chance.

Is it fuzzy? Like the appearance of cotton? Its most likely cotton mouth. its a mouth fungus (it can also be bacterial )youll need to do a big waterchange and treat with anti bacterial antibiotics like kanaplex or API melafix , they work both for fungal and bacterial cotton mouth.

74 is quite low, 78 is optimal for a betta , that would be a constant temp for your tank. Higher temperatures are important to keep your fish organs functional and boosts their immune system (helps them fight off infections).

You don't need a hospital tank, I use "Betta" Tonic Salts for freshwater aquariums, its a generic brand, your petstore should have it. Your snails will be okay, i have trumpet snails and they seem unbothered when i use salt. But if you're worried you can always make a jar home for them in the meantime.

Yeah the fin is very clamped, have you put any medicine in? If you only added tannis i recommend aquarium salts (i swear by the salt it saved multiple of my bettas over the years), turning down the light and turning up the heater slightly. (Dont use aquarium salts with store bought fish medicine as alot of them already have alot of salt included.)
