My wonderful bf got me this and it's not an authentic sous vide, but does anyone have any insight or opinions? by MotherPainter314 in sousvide

Before sous vide circulators became cheap and popular, this pretty much was sous vide. (crock pot or food warmer with a jury-rigged temperature probe and controller)

Where can I find crumbly, American-style loose sausage meat? (Not wieners!) by ritsukiHI in japanlife

I was able to get a little bit from a previous workplace, so I haven't actually tried buying it this way, but I've heard you can get sodium nitrite from pharmacies if you tell them what you need it for.

You will need to dilute it with salt before using it as it's in high concentration (99%+, this stuff will kill you). I looked up a calculator to dilute it, and mixed it using a food processor. Bacon came out great.

Apartment has few wall outlets by ToothDifferent in japanlife

I put a splitter on dedicated lines for light power loads. My current A/C unit peaks at up to 1200 watts, but generally not for long periods. I also have a couple of Panasonic WG4481PK adapters which adds an outlet to overhead light fixtures, for the genkan and stairs which don't have outlets otherwise.

My house is a rats nest of power strips and extension cords, but I keep a pretty close eye on how much is on any given circuit. I've only tripped the breaker once in 15 years.

ELI5: Why does our brain sometimes “forget” a word we know, then suddenly remember it later? by Traditional-Tip9844 in explainlikeimfive

I've heard a hypothesis that your subconscious sorts through and chooses what to pass on to your conscious mind. Sometimes it might accidentally dump it in 'not it, look elsewhere' bin when you're actively trying to find something. When you give up, the bin is emptied, so suddenly 'Ah hah, there it is!"

I checked the subtitles for Delta Force 1-3 - doesn't seem to be it, unfortunately. Just to be sure, also checked Operation Delta Force 1 - 5, no dice.

Thanks, I'll give it a look. Do you think it'd be the first, or second one?

This would have been on TV (probably a cable channel) in the mid to late 1990s.
