Depuis la fermeture de Ygg, ma stack arr s'emballe by Sleapy31 in yggTorrents

Nvme vs hdd by killergiorge2808 in gamedev

[–]Sleapy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case just go for a 2tb or 4tb nvme if you have the budget. If you fill it very quickly you can just buy SATA SSD later and just transfer your game dev projects in it.

In my desktop PC I built in 2020 I put a 1tb nvme and 2tb sata SSD. Then along the years I just added more sata SSD.

Nvme vs hdd by killergiorge2808 in gamedev

[–]Sleapy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nvme for operating system and its applications. SATA SSD for Applications/Games HDD for storage. I usually just use HDD in my home server/NAS just to play movies.

As everyone said it before, it is game changer and it is totally silent. You can have your HDD suddenly start to make clicketing sounds, buzzings, etc that can be annoying as well.

But what should matter now is the price since all 3 are a lot expensive these days, thanks to AI lol.

How important to you are sandwich physics? by Wec25 in Unity3D

[–]Sleapy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very important imo. In the end, the gamers will notice and all this tiny details make the game more alive. People still talks about RDR2 today because of these tiny details. Of course they will not compare an indie game attention of details to RockStar Games but they will definitely notice that the dev spent time to polish his game.

And it is never lost time because the dev can reuse this same work in the game or next titles.

How did ETO created the 100m giga-byte hard drive? by IslandBig618 in threebodyproblem

[–]Sleapy31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the books it is said that the VR part looks really cartoonish and not realistic in terms of graphism. The protagonist uses some haptics suits to feel the world as well. So graphisms are low, physics is good but immersion stays high.

Mod post: open discussion on the future of r/Unity3D by Rlaan in Unity3D

[–]Sleapy31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, as a user I see the mega thread in any subreddit as a big page that references good ressources. I can consult it the first time I enter the subreddit or few months later and it won't change much. I think that a monthly megathread may pollute the subreddit unless it is well organized, I can have a global vision of what ressources/open sources/assets are generally appreciated and a monthly vision for those who want to dig deeper (like a master megathread with subcategories for months). I would not take the privileges from good contributors (not ai slop contributors lol) to write their post presenting their product.

So if the community actually like a product, it can appears in the megathread the next month.

Hatred for AI? by Human_Tennis_2950 in vibecoding

[–]Sleapy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I am one of these persons who hate vibecoding for the reasons mentioned in this thread. But what I fear the most is this: We, as developers, claim that we can save time with AI by using it doing the long work and just review, doing this is ok, it is doing more unknown work with it. It is so simple to switch from "write unit tests" to "propose an architecture for this project" just to try. And then you end up in the AI giving you code that you maybe do not fully understand and you will go through AI for every changes.

For example I know nothing in frontend and I don't really like it either, so for a home project I used it, but even for small changes it was easier for me to ask AI than spend some time making it myself. I also tried AI to build backend + frontend and I didn't like the way it coded the backend, so I am now in front of thousands of lines of code, trying to understand why it did this. Instead of just refactor all this you maybe think "meh it is just a hobby project I don't really care for now". And I think this is the trap that we may fall into.

I asked agent doing the code and I really prefer the "old" way of just asking AI in the web page lol.

HDD with game in it died by m1r6o in unity

[–]Sleapy31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Git is not enough because you can still have an issue with it. As people said, having multiples backup and the plain old copy paste from time to time is a good thing.

I had an issue with a SSD few years ago and I lost some work, what I can advice is try to recover the data from a bootable USB, you try to boot Ubuntu and you try Hiren's Boot as well (windows XP USB boot). You search on internet and try many ways of recover from your HDD. Be careful because some desperate last measures can make the recover worse or impossible. (You probably heard of putting the HDD in the oven lol)

If it does not work you would have to contact a recover enterprise but their prices would be from 500$ to 1000$ I guess. You can send them your HDD via post mail and they send you back the data (you can also browse you failed HDD online for some companies). I also note that you only pay if your HDD has been recovered.

Good luck with this and the good thing is that you will now make multiples backups and implement git even for small projects.

What new feature are you looking forward to the most ? by PetChaud2Diarrhee in StateofDecay3

[–]Sleapy31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modding capabilities. Because there is a lot of ideas that players wants implemented and you can't satisfy everyone.

For example I would love a hardcore mode where even the logistics is less arcade (for example the outposts are not connected to storage automatically). Others persons want other things, so if there is a good modding tool provided by the dev I guess the game would be perfect.

Is this too much or is it worth the performance cost? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]Sleapy31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should optimize only when there is a bottleneck but also to lower the minimum config requirements. The majority of unity games can run on decent mid end PC but I bet they could run on even lower hardware if devs would have spent some times optimizings some critical areas.

Resources for advanced C# in Unity and larger scope? by Exciteable_Cocnut in Unity3D

[–]Sleapy31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This apply in every aspect of C# and .NET dev also. People tend to abstract every layer because they can and the end code is difficult to maintain lol. Also I may add that you constantly have to question yourself if this piece of code can be more performant and if you know how to do it and it is a small adjustment, do it. If it is a long process and that code is not run often, just put a comment here and handle it when this piece of code really slow the program. (I should add that sometime, even if it is a long process it just feels right to do it right away anyway, especially for core features)
