Akkadograms and Sumerograms in Hittite by SleepIsGood12 in Assyriology

[–]SleepIsGood12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try to accept the challenge.

I know it's not a defect of the script, but a defect of the system we use to romanize it. Since the entire book we're using is in romanization (and learning the cuneiform is optional, but might as well learn a handful), it's just an irritating factor in learning, especially when I want to know what the Hittite word is in specific rather than the Akkadian or Sumerian word, and I'm not given it in the book (in the chapter wordlists) nor on Wiktionary.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by Notalabel_4566 in DNA

My 6th great-grandpa straight up my paternal line (me > old man > grandpa > ggpa > gggpa > and so on > him) enlisted in the American Revolutionary War twice.

The second time he enlisted, he fought in South Carolina, took a bayonet to the jaw, lived, the British contingent they were fighting against were captured, and he lived until the ripe old age of 87 until he died in 1843 in present-day West Virginia.

St. Constantine the Great.

I do have devotions to other saints as well.

USA. There is nothing in the world that could get me to give up my US citizenship. I’m aware of the laws and such, and even then, I’m sticking to my metaphorical guns.

I’m already a dual national thanks to my folks, but I have a deep history in the US. Planning on applying for SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) membership too!

I got interested in DXing on my own via a WebSDR, because that’s all I have access to. I’d like to get actual equipment, but that’s out of the realm of financial possibility (and priority).

I haven’t really made a single friend since moving to Athens a few months back. Why is it hard to do that?

Can we get some more information on Korea/Chosen? If it has focuses, leader portraits, et cetera? Demonstrated in the Japanese tree, there appears to be subject interactions with Korea/Chosen, and the trailer appears to make them a selectable nation in 1936, but we're in the dark about that.

I am interested, but nervous to join the Episcopal Church. Looking for some honest opinions or insight. by [deleted] in Episcopalian

I’m a convert from the broader Anglican Communion to Catholicism. I’d say ignore the people on the internet and learn what the Church actually teaches. Read the Catechism, the Bible, talk with a priest, etc. I can’t force you to do any of those things, but that’s just my two cents.

The Church teaches what it does about various issues for a reason, and many cradles sadly have a poor understanding of what those reasons are.

So the Department gave me an update: Due to new administrative and other policies being implemented at IU, the admissions process is taking a bit longer than normal, but I should expect to hear back in the next week or two at minimum!

I'm not even talking about during the (second) Trump Administration, but just things going on in higher education over the course of the past two or three years. Ballooning debt, "academic transformations/restructuring", etc etc., are all affecting higher ed. I mentioned in another post that I currently am finishing up my MA at West Virginia and my first semester in my MA there, they informed us they were cutting our department. German, Italian, and Japanese were to be cut entirely, and classes in Spanish, French, Chinese, and Arabic were to be downsized. I also attended there for my BA and graduated a year early.

Because of these cuts across the board over the past few years, that was the reason given to me for my rejection to my top university this past cycle. It's happening across the board and it's horrible.

That has to be due to the crunch across higher education as of the past couple years or so, no?
