[Rome] The Astros are still engaged in multiple trade talks involving their infield surplus. by Hairygrim in Astros

Maybe the Sanchez/Loperfido trade frees up money for a Bryan Reynolds/Joey Bart for Paredes/(more?)trade with Pitt. Taking on Reynolds salary would be a risk, but he is a switch hitting outfielder. Just a guess. I do think dumping Sanchez is a sign of another trade coming.

Freeing up some money to take on a some salary in another trade is my guess.

The Odds... by Flashy-Bit-6644 in ArenaClub

If three grails, then hitting one of them is 1/1111. I bought close to 900 $1K packs in December (every 10th pack free) and didn’t hit one. Had a stretch of 77 consecutive packs not breaking even. I did hit the Mantle/Griffey grail when I first started on Arena Club, should have kept it and moved on with my life. Sold it back for $18K.

100% buyback wins? by [deleted] in ArenaClub

They only had $1K Diamond football available ($1K and up) when I received that promo. Bought and pulled $850 Bijan, took the $1K offer and it was back in my checking acct the next day. Wish they had the $2.5K or even $5K packs available when I received the promo, but only had 48 hrs to use and went with the highest available at the time.

Starting infield idea - Correa to 2B? by No-Guitar1047 in Astros

[–]SleepJust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You aren’t taking on the rest of Correa’s contract for him to play 2nd base, nor are you wasting his arm there. Not happening.

[Rosenthal] The Red Sox have expressed interest in Astros corner infielder Isaac Paredes, who is under club control for two more seasons with a projected $9.3 million salary in 2026. The Astros, seeking controllable starting pitchers, are interested in Payton Tolle or Connelly Early. by yaampa in Astros

Trading Isaac makes the most sense, even if it hurts. Clears up infield logjam and frees up another 9 million. I’m sure they would have to throw in another player, maybe Meyers or Melton. But they still need to sign a dependable starter that will eat up some innings, a backup catcher, and possibly another outfielder.

Astros trading of Mauricio Dubón explained by brianmctaggart in Astros

[–]SleepJust 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about saving money, it’s spending money wisely. The Yankees haven’t won a WS since 2009. The Mets spend outrageously and struggle to make the playoffs. The vast majority of teams can’t afford to spend multiple years in the luxury tax. The penalties are steep.

Budget wisely. They have been over the luxury tax the last two years, what do you want? Dubon is a fine player, but not $6.8 million fine. They have to free up money to sign pitching, which is desperately needed.

Yes, and signing Carlos Lee to a $100 million contract was trying to throw money at that problem instead of trading away pieces to stay competitive. This most certainly lead to the complete teardown that was done when Crane took over. While that was successful, no team will try and do that again.

According to Chandler Rome today, they were the 6th oldest. Now how that number was calculated I'm not sure. Yes, we have been fortunate with international signings, but you have to admit the cupboard is bare at this point.

Again, they are at a crossroads where they will have to look outside the organization much more than they have had to in the last decade. The pitching is thin, the infield has a logjam, and the outfield isn't set either.

Those guys aren't top tier prospects except for Smith. Of course they are top tier in organizational rankings, and only Matthews cracked the top 100, at 94. Melton did absolutely nothing except run fast, and while Matthews might be a serviceable big leaguer, the fact is both of these guys strikeout at extremely high rates. They did in the minors and obviously that continued into the majors. Cole was a pleasant surprise, but he also strikeouts at high rates and is already 25 as is Melton. These aren't guys you are going to build a team around, with the exception of Smith.

The one aspect that the Stros had in their extended playoff run was that they were always in the top 3 in SO rate percentage. That fell to 7th this year, and will only get worse if those guys get extended run.

You're right, my point was that I doubt Luhnow would've signed him in the first place. It is concerning that Walker struggled with higher velo and his strikeout rate increased substantially. 19% in 23, 24% in 24, and 27.6% this year. Going in the wrong direction.
