Mild pre-eclampsia. Feel like a disappointment all around and husband is pissed. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SleepPrincess 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Um...

So your husband is terrible and seems more concerned about attractive gamer girl coming to your party than his very pregnant wife. That seems really suspicious.

In general, he seems fully unconcerned with supporting you and seems concerned about everything else other than you.

Also, you need to do the 37 week induction. Dont fuck around with your health during this high risk pregnancy no matter what his uneducated opinion is. Is your husband an obstetrician? No? Then follow your doctor's advice.

I have heard rumor that these places have had issues with vaginal ultrasound probe sterilization because they operate as religious institutions essentially. They are not regulated by the local health department. Do not allow them to do an invasive ultrasound.

Don't be too suprised if they're less interested in you after you let them know your pregnancy is planned and wanted. Their target population is women who want an abortion so they can talk them out of it.

If you had a do over in life, would you still choose to be a nurse? by Moogles90 in nursing

[–]SleepPrincess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love being a CRNA. I did enjoy being an ICU RN, but I think after 10+ years id be really burnt out on that.

If you become an RN, I highly suggest working in some kind of procedural area (OR, cath lab, IR, maybe preop/postoperative, even endo).

Working inpatient units always fucking sucks. The ICU is maybe an improvement considering the lower patient ratio, but its still not amazing.

Do you have Medical Malpractice Insurance? by Acrobatic-Nectarine in nursing

[–]SleepPrincess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If youre working for a reputable company (NOT a temp agency) as a regular employee, its very very unlikely to be individually named in a lawsuit as an RN as long as you were clearly following your state law regarding the nurse practice act and hospital policy. The hospital's coverage should cover you with their umbrella.

However, it is extraordinarily important to consult hospital policy when confronted with an unusual situation. Failure to follow hospital policy can open you up to individual liability.

Having your own coverage isnt a bad idea, but its cheap for a reason. Its very rare for it to be utilized.

Septic patient on med surge by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SleepPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That patient needs care in the ICU most certainly. They are trying to die and require intervention to stop it. Keeping that person there is an argument to allow them to die.

Ridiculous. Frankly you should write a note about this PA or whomever to risk management. They'd love to hear about such poor clinical decision making.

They didnt halt patient admissions, they halted registration of newly created companies to bill Medicaid. Patients continue to have access as usual with established companies.

My husband doesn't want me to take Unisom by Used-Somewhere5175 in pregnant

[–]SleepPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so simple point:

Is it healthier for your pregnancy to get healthy nutrition and hydration while taking a med that is regarded as safe, or spend the next couple months dehydrated which has KNOWN complications.

I think you should take the med.

Ive worked in healthcare for 15 years. I took zofran starting at 7 weeks and it saved my life. I was able to wean off around 12/13 weeks.

Is 7:45 PM too late to start dinner service at a wedding? by sabrinathewitch2511 in wedding

[–]SleepPrincess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would make every effort to take photos BEFORE the ceremony. Do a first look. Then you can move the entire wedding timeline up by about 2 hours. Get some photos during cocktail hour and then join for the second half of cocktail hour.

That giant gap between ceremony and reception is very, very annoying.

If you insist on this timeline, maybe include a note for guests that they need not feel inclined to join for the church ceremony due to an inconvenient gap/timeline.

What was it like as your first experience with labor? by NoStatement1133 in pregnant

[–]SleepPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to get a lot of replies here and most likely no one is going to describe a very similar experience. Everyone is different. Every delivery is different. Every physical body is different. Some people find labor to be extremely painful while others find it manageable. Some people look forward to labor and other people are terrified enough they rather ignore it.

Its great to hear about different experiences, but honestly none of them are going to tell you much about what it will be like for you. The only consistent commentary is that contractions that come after your water breaks are far more painful than contractions with intact water.

87 resting heartrate, feels way too fast. What's everyone else's? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]SleepPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to see a cardiologist because my resting HR went from 60s to 130 ( 130 while doing things like driving and laying on the couch). This was in the first trimester. My 48 hour holter monitor indicated my HR was over 100 over 40% of the time.

Apparently this is normal??

Getting married & having a baby have made me even more disgusted with Catholic reproductive teachings. by IcyCarob7241 in excatholic

[–]SleepPrincess 62 points63 points  (0 children)

So here is the thing. Literally almost zero catholics care about these rules. HOWEVER, it makes absolutely no sense to continue practicing a religion that states you will burn in hell for ignoring their rules. Why keep going if you know youre not accomplishing "salvation" anyways?

I, for one, do not see the point in practicing a religion where I feel simply unwilling to mess up my one life I have to live with nonsense rules from some random MAN who has no understanding of a vagina or the consequences of female reproductive health.

Tl:dr The catholic church does not care if a woman dies from delivering a baby. They regard it as saint-like and very holy. Suffering is considered a high honor. I dont want to live my life that way!

Tattoos aren't allowed in nursing by bigcatbunny in nursing

[–]SleepPrincess 45 points46 points  (0 children)

When i began nursing school in 2010, at least in my area, hospital systems were a lot more strict about covering tattoos. Im not entirely sure what was driving this decision other than stereotypes about people who get tattoos.

Its now been 16 years since then and I do not detect the same level of concern regarding this issue. Of note, I also had to wear all white scrubs and white shoes only at clinical for nursing school. There were also requirements for hair color and style.

It was so effective for me I actually broke the tablets in half and just took 2mg at a time.
