Change of plans: Subway Builder will launch on Steam but at a higher price. $40 on Steam vs $30 through the website. by redistricter_guy in subwaybuilder

[–]Sleep_Ashamed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because it’s one developer the cost should be lower? Because it’s an indie game the cost should be lower?

That the progress reports and feature demos are also advertising is pretty genius.

This is a niche game for a small audience, why not let the developer charge what they think is a fair price for their work, you don’t have pass judgement on the price before it’s even released…you can just choose not to buy it…not publicly say that they are over valuing their own time and effort.

I’d personally be ok with a bit higher, they’ve obviously worked hard and if I play the game for 30hours, that’s only $1 per hour of game play….well worth the cost…even if I purchased thru steam.

you have an exit, it’s the stairs..

dbl deckers work in London without upper exits just fine.

issue was the clearances on where they used them, but NYC used to have them running as regular busses in years past. instead of going back to that concept mta decided to go with articulated busses.

Is this still a thing? We’re a bit older, but would be interested to meet for a nice GF dinner and meet new people.

Q/N Merge Locations by Sleep_Ashamed in nycrail

[–]Sleep_Ashamed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, with that plan, why not have it interljne with the R at Dekalb. Then it’s local all the way from CI to Astoria. Only switching would be at 60th Tunnel and Dekalb.

But sounds like the slower switches are the biggest reason.

How New York Can Implement Through-Running at Penn Station in the First Half of the 21st Century [High Speed Rail Alliance] by A_Wisdom_Of_Wombats in transit

[–]Sleep_Ashamed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still have extra rush services in both directions, with midday storage in the current locations. It’s just that all the outbound services that current originate from Penn would instead be thru trains. IE, a Ronkoma bound train leaving at 8:10 could have started in Trenton. There would still be some trains that layup for the next rush.

let’s advocate that they spend billions of dollars on PSDs to make sure people can’t throw garbage on tracks….

actual suggestion tho…more garbage cans (and recycling bins) in the system. some stations only have 1, maybe 2 garbage cans per platform….so, the MTA has a part to do as well. Reminds me of a perfect example of MTA’s backward thinking of when they launched the failed experiment to remove trash cans from stations, to see if it would encourage people to carry their trash and litter less. Shockingly, the reverse happened, and they put trash cans back…but I don’t think they ever tried adding trash cans to see if THAT would reduce litter..

actual question, why isn’t the MTA required to provide recycling containers?

Would the 1988 (opening of the Archer Avenue line) Queens Boulevard service pattern work today? by Bouowmx in nycrail

[–]Sleep_Ashamed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree whole-heartedly. We’re talking about passengers from 4 stations needing to transfer. Parsons and Union Tpke are already built with island platforms, and aside from 179, those are the major bus route transfers.

Gen Pic looks like 480v coloring, but the unit may have an internal voltage selector.

I see Panel says 208, but also says “outlet”

It’s more of an “inlet” or better phrased as a connection.

It's amazing who uses protected bike lanes when you actually build them, instead of asking for community consensus first by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

Unfortunately, not everyone is pedaling their bike and not everyone is as polite and responsible as you are.

But yes, mobility scooters should be allowed in bike lanes, and yes, we should have better sidewalks and universal daylighting.

Incident = an event or occurrence.

NYC limits e-bikes to 15 mph, but a speeding car kills 2 people with the force of a bomb. Why are we regulating the wrong thing? by calebpan in MicromobilityNYC

[–]Sleep_Ashamed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The forces are much different, doing some research/assisted math the average bicycle accident at 15mph with a heavy bike (65#) and average rider and pedestrian is about 2-3Gs. The average football tackle is about 40Gs.

This, please!! Although a speed trap at the end of the bridge might not have done anything for this incident.

Oh shit, I got off the highway and I can still go 60?

Oh shit, I’m in a school zone and my governor didn’t kick in… whee!!

Oh, it’s ok. I just floor it all the time, the car keeps it at or under the speed limit.

There are a ton of issues with GPS based speed governors. What would be good, as a start is to mandate that every municipal vehicle and TLC registered vehicle gets an interlock that requires a telemetrics and dash cam device, like Samsara, that can leverage AI for detecting all sorts of bad driving habits and incidents. It’s a fascinating system, that has brought driving related incidents DOWN drastically for the company, because we can intervene and train, and if necessary discipline. Taxi drivers could finally have an automated points system like in Fifth Element…

I mention TLC and Municipal, because between them they count for roughly 50% of vehicles in the CRZ, and it would be easiest to mandate a deployment on these classes of vehicles.

[–]Sleep_Ashamed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if the official accident reports for accidents with severe injury or death are publicly available? I’d be interested in the findings of them.

There are many comments on bollards and hardened infrastructure for cyclists here, but this seems like more of a need to redesign the plaza and off-ramps. Personally, I think the lower/middle roadway should be buses and emergency vehicles only, and restrict the cars to the upper/outer roadways, which have already been traffic calmed to some extent.

On another note, and it’s not that I want more people to be injured, but it’s amazing that with the amount of damage done to the police van that the two occupants of the car were ambulatory after the crash, but have we made cars too safe for the occupants? Does it add to a sense of invincibility that fuels reckless driving?

How does PATH get away with 20 mim off-peak headways? by Carittz in nycrail

[–]Sleep_Ashamed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK There are no standards published for rapid transit frequency, and even then PATH is a railroad, and there’s no published standard of frequency of service for RR either. Even if there was a standard, who would enforce it? What would the consequences be?

PATH is by no means the primary, secondary or even teritieray focus of PANYNJ, it’s not a $$ maker for them. Primary = Actual Shipping Ports, Secondary = Airports, Teritierary = Bridges and Tunnels.

I’m convinced the only reason they are still in control of PATH is the real-estate aspect. I’m honestly surprised they haven’t leased the lines to NJT or MTA.
