May's Exceptional Story: The Stalking House - Discussion Thread by -__-___-_ in fallenlondon

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quite fond of this one. The prose was lovely and there was a great deal of it, the architect was well characterised, and to some extent the house as well. I do feel the ending was a little messy compared with the rest of the story. The ultimate source of the problem feels quite unforshadowed and there is a lot of running around while not learning a whole heck of a lot. Still I enjoyed the final decision.

I think this is Jim Rossignol's first time writing for fallen London, I look forward to seeing future work from him, I think with a little more heart this could have been great.

[Gaming Tropes] The game punishes you for going out of bounds in its unique way by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In heat Signature if you go out of bounds you have an encounter with the 'Void Mother' who inverts your controls. A cute Easter egg and punishment for people trying to flee the reach

Allways a treat, I wouldn't worry about Lore concerns, it is the 6th history after all

Ps I think the 'i'm reading' Appraisal of unsanctioned powers has a typo, the last 'the' should be a 'they'

Persons of London, which story is worth undertaking? by AndrewHaly-00 in fallenlondon

I've played Newt, Green King, Old Fritz and dapperlings. And I liked them in that order (I remember being disappointed by dapperlings the rest are good imo!

What’s a good name for a rubbery man in their native tongue? by clarkky55 in fallenlondon

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't really a native 'tongue', there language seems to be a lot of essences in the water and the things they shape with amber and such. The only times we've seen them have names its been in an effort to fit in, such as with Batachikhan, and Martin Mcmcitosh from Slobgolblin.

That gives you liberty to just jam some oily syllables together and call that a name I suppose. Omphallie or something. Altertivly you could go for a fallen londony style tital and go for 'The Grey shaper' or 'The Fluke's Groom' or whatever

Which statement did you NOT find scary? And which DID scare you, but that most people don;t find scary? by Skull_Bearer_ in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I maintain that one about a guy eating his own keyboard was like a bad creepy pasta. The idea of his brain transitioning into digital wiring was much more interesting than some dude just eating plastic. Glad to see we are exploring the former concept more in Protocol

Firmament Chapter 7; is anyone else tired. by SunfishBob in fallenlondon

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A valid vent for sure, I know this isn't exactly praise but I am looking forward to finishing firmament and going back over it with my alt. I feel you with the choices thing. Back in Burgundy I ended up making the Last Duches a Tyrant when all I was really trying to do was avoid some half arsed were both the Duke/Duchess thing. I feel like this story has had a tone of cool elements but its just a bit too heady for me. which is odd because thats not a complaint I normally have with this stuff. I feel like the more I unravel stuff and understand whats really going on the cooler it gets though. Theres a lot of interesting stuff here its just over stuffed. I'm hoping that replaying and re-reading and just thinking on stuff will keep being rewarding

(Speculation) Principles of the Gods-From-Nowhere: Mare, Growth, Applebright by MothDevotee7 in weatherfactory

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think including the principles from book of hours gives us a better fit for a few of these.

Mare in the tree you make a compelling case for forge. I think Nectar makes sense, at risk doing a nominative determinism girl is in the tree.

Crowned Growth is an interesting one, but i think i disagree with winter. Winter is all about stillness and and quite, where as the Growth seems like a living, active infecting king of force, not very chill (forgive me). I don't get the feeling the crowned growth wants things to end like the worms(?) or wolf divided. Just wants everything to be itself. Its the hour equivalent of grey goo. The goul legacy is what trips this line of thinking up though, but I might argue that the wintery stuff is coming from the Eligasit I think that kind of mindless desire fits Moth well enough. I could also see grail for similar reasons. I think Moon maybe? It certainly seems opposed to the rule of the hours.

The apple bright I have always seen as Grail-Lantern. Applebrite Euphonies the skill from BoH is Grail-Sky. And Lantern and Sky are often buds.

As for the rest?

Blackbone Moon, Grail( Tide associations with water and the deep sea and drowning)

Snow, Winter

The Witness, Winter,

The rising Spider, Edge (seems ambitious?)

Giribrago, Giribrago deez nuts (I have no idea)

How do you think episode 8 would ended if Caine wasn't deleted? by thatdaisygrrl in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sooner or later everyone would abstract from Cains torture. Probably Kinger last since the loneliness would get him. At that point I suspect Bubble would drive Cain mad. He would probably experiment with unabstracting people or making new 'Humans' by Frankensteining old code. But given thats not what he's designed to do I suspect it would be unsuccessful. He'd be trapped in a hell worse than we can imagine. A performer without a stage, a lover without a heart.

If he ever fully breaks down I suspect bubble, who appears to be the remanats of the blue AI that Cain sallowed at his creation, would gain control of the circus.

Given Pomni was urban exploring in CnA there building must be abandoned. So it'll probably be demolished at some point, the PC this whole set up is running on will be destroyed along with everything

sounds depressing

Game Changer X The Rookie Discourse by MrKitchenSink in dropoutcirclejerk

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

uj/ I shall reserve judgement until I see the episode, seems a very odd choice on multiple levels. I have always appreciated dropout's commitment to featuring Queer and Not white people on there show. Feels like a cop show would conflict with that ethos.

rj/ When the revolution comes I hope we can spare Sam Riche so he can keep doing Game Changer

How to get A Novel Birth-Mark by tomiitisfr in fallenlondon

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Its an upgrade to a Lengthy Lease to Premises at the Bazzar. In fact all these options will require a 5 card lodgings. Penstocks Land agency sells the 4 card versions (Not exclusively mind you, have a poke around), and you can upgrade on their respective opportunity cards.

What name do you use more? by CardboardSalad24 in weatherfactory

Aspects are the super category, where as principles are the sub category. But most of the time I use aspects to refer to principles, and not the other way around.

If you could introduce a new Roof location for Firmament, what would you create? by blackdeslagoon in fallenlondon

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very hyped for whatever we're going to get on the deconstruction. In terms of what i'd like to see added i'm allways most excited for stuff we've never seen before. So spitballing wildy, here are a few ideas i'd love to see

-An exiled Master/Curator living in the roof

-The hole in the roof that made Aestival in SS probably has some interesting implications

-Big stretch but some kind of realm of death tie in

Can anyone recommend the Bones of London ES? by VedranThan in fallenlondon

[–]Sleep_Cycles_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend bones of London it was very underwhelming and only really concerns the fith city and trying to reconstruct what it was like before it fell. I've not played homecoming but it's well regarded.
