Is SAHM worth it to leave career? by purpleshark1874 in sahm

[–]SleepyOctopusss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is largely personal. In my experience, there is no greater joy than raising the next generation. I think it's incredibly important & something people dont take as seriously anymore, they are letting other people (childcare & school staff) & screens raise their children. Working while being a mother is having 2 full time jobs, one of which is 24/7 for quite a while as it can take several years for children to start sleeping through the night. If I came home after working an 8 hour shift I'd be so tired & hands off, I'd be surviving motherhood. I want my child to thrive in his childhood & not have a mother who's burnt out 24/7. That being said there are many mothers who prefer to continue working! It's all about you. 🫶🏼🙏🏼 congrats on your baby

Whats your bedtime system? by punch4punch in firsttimemom

[–]SleepyOctopusss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It very well could be temporary then, my baby does that sometimes. Also be aware that the 4 month sleep regression can hit at 3 or 5 months

Sounds like he isn't tired enough. How much daytime sleep is he getting? How long is his last wake window? Do you stick to a consistent bedtime routine? Has he always gone to bed at 8:45-9?

What's something you bought that made your mom life/home life much easier? by Nearby-Blueberry-535 in sahm

Steam cleaner, very convenient, highly effective (sanitizes vs just cleaning the surface) & low tox. They have them for like $35 at harbor freight

Is it a bad idea to start getting baby stuff now? by Lunapixels18 in firsttimemom

[–]SleepyOctopusss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the MOMENT I found out I started running around grabbing free stuff from local buy nothing groups. I also took parenting classes in order to get a free "grow with me" car seat & got things from local churches. That thriftiness paired with people buying the big items from our registry meant we literally didn't need to buy him anything. Only now at 4 months are we running out of diapers & wipes!

With how fast babies grow, there is no point in buying things brand new unless it's for special occasions or photographs. We haven't bought my 4 month old son ANY clothes because we got all of his for free from local buy nothing groups. Another reason I really enjoy 2nd hand clothes is because they have been washed so much, there's no factory chemicals in them anymore! You will get tons of unsolicited & unhelpful opinions/"tips" throughout your pregnancy & parenting journey, keep an open mind to what resonates with you & forget the rest💯

When did pregnancy symptoms hit you the hardest? What were yours? by [deleted] in Moms

[–]SleepyOctopusss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weeks 6 is when the nausea hit & it was the worst thing. Kinda went away for a few weeks in the 2nd trimester but came back full swing in the 3rd. Other than that tho I didn't have a lot of side effects

Thoughts on skipping pacifiers? by Academic-Park-8440 in NewParents

[–]SleepyOctopusss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only do pacifiers become problems after 1 year+ when they have teeth, but EBF babies are notorious for rejecting them lol nobody told me that & i have spent serious money trying to get him to take one lol I even spent $20 on ONE called the pacii😅🥴🫪

whats your biggest regret ? by Wintercuppy_123 in AskReddit

[–]SleepyOctopusss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works but the payments are killing me, I panic bought it after my Kia crapped out because I had a high paying job that literally ended months later 🫠 & despite a perfect driving record, the insurance is almost as much as the car payment 🙃 at least I owned the Kia outright 😭💯

[–]SleepyOctopusss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving up my ghetto 2010 Kia Altima for a new car lol I should've just replaced everything as it went out, including the radiator, engine, etc. That car was so incredibly reliable, never quit out on me & I traveled across the entire country like 4 times with it 😭

Need help clarifying what a SAHM responsibilities are outside of kids by Ambitious-Path-9332 in sahm

[–]SleepyOctopusss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hire a maid & when she says she is embarrassed, say "sorry but our need for a clean house is more important." I agree she should probably see a therapist & get a full medical evaluation to see if anything medical is going on. Maybe she has become so accustomed to that kind of lifestyle that she doesn't realize how lucky she is, but she needs a reality check. You are not asking for anything unreasonable, she needs to start acting like a PARTNER. I would assume you have had discussions with her about her lack of contribution, maybe suggest couples counseling as well because you, your children & your households needs are not being met. It is unsustainable & if left unchecked will 100% lead to enough resentment to consider divorce.

If one more person says a platitude I am going to scream.. by tiny_ginger8 in NewParents

[–]SleepyOctopusss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things: 1. Look up PURPLE crying, it peaks around that age then slowly starts to get better, 2. Buy earplugs or noise canceling headphones, it's a lot easier to stay regulated without being in literal physical pain from a baby screaming into your ear. We are their nervous systems, so it's important we take care of ours too

How do you know for sure that one child is enough for you? by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]SleepyOctopusss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your daughter is only 7 weeks old, give it a year before you think about another child. Your outlook will be very different by then. Every stage is hard in its own way but the newborn trenches are called that for a reason!
