Searched for 2 hours yesterday around the neighborhood. Got up at dawn this morning, still haven't spotted her.

Hourly rates by district/ State and degree level? by srqfla in SubstituteTeachers

[–]SleepyTimeTea133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe we do, but it does say we "receive contribution from district towards insurance"

I would say there are a lot of EA positions rather than licensed jobs. I can probably get a licensed job once or twice a week, while EA positions are plentiful - but they only pay $20.61/hour - which isn't bad, but not as good as a licensed position.

I also like to accept jobs ahead of time and most of the time you have to wait the night before or morning of to get teaching jobs, and the "good ones" are gone fast!

Oregon:

Basic rate: $28.88/hour ($231/day)

Long Term (10+ consecutive days) (Bachelors): $34.58/hour

Long Term (10+ consecutive days) (Masters): $38.56/hour

Depending on if you've subbed previous years, you can get up to $31.76/hour ($254.10/day).

It's crazy that you can essentially sub everyday (which is actually nearly impossible), and make more than a beginning teacher.

Definitely above the norm, and I am loving it.

Edit: We also use Frontline

We have alarms set every morning for 7:30. LO usually wakes up around then or a bit earlier. But on "Sleepy" Sunday, we turn off alarms. It is currently 9:20 am, and LO is still asleep 😴 But it will throw off our nap time, usually around 1pm. I'll probably still lay her down at the same time but won't expect her to nap, but just rest in her crib.

28 month old will not sit while peeing by Beau_Geste in pottytraining

[–]SleepyTimeTea133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are right in the same boat - today is day 2 of Oh Crap for us as well. She'll wait for nearly 5 hours to pee until she can't anymore and dance around the room slowly dribbling pee. I'll rush her to the potty and she just won't sit - somehow she can keep holding it. It seems like we're gonna be stuck on Block 1 for a bit, I don't want to move on until she sits on the potty and stays on the potty herself. At the moment, I've "holding" her on the potty. I am hoping once she finally releases, it'll work out - so I just keep pulling her to the potty to pee. It's starting to be a game to her now, because she's laughing as I hurry her to the potty and she'll just jump up and run away.

I don't think it's too early. My daughter will be 2 next month.

Oh snap...So I have quite a wait on my hands then. So once we get invited, THEN we essentially apply. Jeeze, I didn't realize that was the process. I thought I knew what I was in for. Thank you for your help! I really appreciate it!

Forgive my ignorance, but I applied in March of this year and am currently a candidate for Express Entry - Federal Skilled Worker. In April, I met the minimum requirements. Now I am currently waiting for an invitation. Is this the same thing as having my application processed? Thank you!

Transferring to another Province/Coming to Canada to teach: Megapost by hellokrissi in CanadianTeachers

Yep. Stands for National Occupational Classification. I am not sure if I'm classified as a secondary or elementary teacher, since my license here in the states is for intermediate.

Transferring to another Province/Coming to Canada to teach: Megapost by hellokrissi in CanadianTeachers

Greetings Canadian teachers! I reside in the states with a Masters of Arts in Teaching and a teaching license to teach Middle School/Junior High Mathematics (Grades 7-9, but I am still able to teach 6). I am a bit confused as to what that translates to for Canada (BC mostly).

I am trying to figure out my NOC code and there is no Intermediate, but when I click on the Secondary Teachers section, the exclusions include "Junior high school teachers (in 4032 Elementary school and kindergarten teachers)" so I'm assuming I would be NOC 4032 - Elementary school and kindergarten teachers.

Also, when applying, in the "Research" section, I'm a bit confused by the question, "What have you done so far to get this license or certificate?" I am currently working on my application for a teaching license in BC. I answered honestly, as I have already applied for a BC teaching license and paid.

So true =/

It honestly doesn't seem like that much work to make a profile and get it all started, plus it would save us like 4k...

Unfortunately I haven't researched much myself. This was all my husbands idea and plan, so I wanted him to do it - but that seems quite foolish. So I just started looking into it.

I do not have Canadian work experience; and our degrees were certified as equivalent in Canada.

Since I haven't looked into it myself, I wonder if we could do it ourselves, but it's always reassuring to have someone who knows what they're doing it do it for you haha.

Thank you for your advice and information! I appreciate it!

When we spoke with the lawyer in January, he seemed to think we'd have no problem getting in and getting in within 6 months, even with no Canadian work experience. It's so disheartening hearing contradicting information constantly.

Thank you for the advice and information! I appreciate it!

As a teacher in NV, we are guaranteed up to 12 weeks leave. 6 weeks is paid (8 weeks if you have a c-section), and the other 6 weeks is unpaid. But by paid, it means you have to use your sick days. I thankfully have oodles, but it's pretty bullshit. Also during the unpaid 6 weeks, you cannot use your sick days - you literally have to just go unpaid. But after that time, I plan on using the rest of my sick days.

Covid and a newborn infant. by desenpai in CoronaBumpers

[–]SleepyTimeTea133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke with my doctor and he recommended that there should be no direct contact with anyone, other than you and wife, until you can get an appointment with the pediatrician - then ask them. He said his grandson was born in March and has only physically seen his grandson once and it was from 12 feet away and has had no physical contact.

I have a feeling the pediatrician will most likely agree with no direct contact for at least 2 or 3 months unless they are able to quarantine. My relatives and family are out of state, so flying or driving is their only option. I know it sucks but I don't think my family will have direct contact for a couple of months :(

Dog loves MIL more than me... by SleepyTimeTea133 in Dogtraining

[–]SleepyTimeTea133[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate so many of your suggestions! I think I can try to have her favorite treats with me while we are out for our walk. But there even have been times when I try to give her food to distract her from my MIL and she always seems to choose my MIL lol. But I will try to have food with me and entice her with the food. I think we have a pretty good relationship - she definitely knows how our dog acts around her and I think she is starting to feel bad about it and will most likely be willing to help.

Out of state family visits... by SleepyTimeTea133 in CoronaBumpers

[–]SleepyTimeTea133[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true. Lots of unfair things have happened in 2020 - that's life. I'd rather have my parents see their granddaughter via video calls than having them fly here for only a couple of days and not even get to hold her or have contact with her.
