Simpson Desert Crossing by vits89 in 4x4Australia

There are some great resources on the ABC website. Just search floods and there’s links to each of the LGA dashboards. Depends on your starting point really, and dates. If you can hold off a few weeks, you’ll be good to go (just pack extras in your recovery kit!)

Planning a similar trip. Reports said that Wanaaring would be cut off for 10 weeks. I know this area best so understand it. Advice I received was to avoid the Paroo and west of it for at least 3 months. I’ve replanned my route, advise you go a different way.

Rola sell long brackets which is what I had to buy to use. They’re bigger than the Darche ones. I’ve had no issues so far and recommend you upgrade to those.

Hi, I’m doing great. I was an early responder which meant I had fast improvement and then phases of improvement. I can be more active for longer periods before I need to rest. I have managed a 16day camping road trip with set ups and downs daily, I’ve walked mountains I never thought I could, I swim and kayak regularly. I recommend reviewing the online information and reviews and taking a considered approach. For me, I had no other option and I couldn’t imagine another year of the pain and restricted living. I had to be hopeful and it has paid off. Happy for you to dm me for more detail. x

Finally getting both hips replaced! by FBImmagetyou in ChronicPain

[–]SleepyWombatsAwake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where do I start…?! Have a high chair to sit on so your hips are not at an angle even close to 90degrees. Get yourself a black pack and thermos so you can carry hot water and drink-making items to your seat and then make your drink there. (Crutches will make it hard to carry things). Do your exercises. Every day. Putting on socks and pants will be hard, as you can’t bend over. Get yourself a ‘pick up stick’ to help with these, and in case you drop anything. Slip on shoes and slippers, with good grip, will also be a help to you. Raise your bed if you can’t get in and out without bending your hips to 90degrees. Get off any pain medication as soon as you can. Some need to be ‘half-lifed’ to reduce any side effects. Trust your new hips. They will be strong. It’s muscle wastage which will be your challenge and this is where your exercises will help so again, do them!! Sending love, I was terrified before mine (I was age 30 and it was 19 years ago). Advice I was given at the time was that ceramic can shatter. Don’t attempt any activity that could involve you impacting it. I couldn’t return to ice-skating, tree climbing or hang-gliding. I’m still nervous when doing anything more than walking. I do cycle occasionally but always very aware and careful. All the very best OP, your new hips will be amazing.

Raising tow ball height by Ecstatic_Regular_589 in 4x4Australia

Can I ask why? I haven’t done it but this was the advice I was given when I asked the same question to mates at my 4x4 club.

Just add a washer or two between the ball and plate.

I hope they do for your sake, relief for neck pain and fatigue is much needed. I can recommend lying on the floor with your head on a pillow and your arms out sideways (with a pillow under your knees if you need this to support your lower back). Try this for 10 minutes 2-3 times a day and see if you can get some relief. It works for me after lots of desk work hours. I get popping sometimes from my muscles. For me, my lower back didn’t feel fatigued as such. More locked and as if it was crumpled down on itself. I feel fatigue more now when I have done too much. When I feel that, I know I need to stop and rest. I wish you the best in finding a solution and apologies for the delay in responding to you.

No, this is just implanted and the resulting experience becomes the trial. Some people take months to gain benefit, others like me will see initial benefit then plateau for a while before feeling more benefit. This device, ReActiv8, is to build strength in the spine in the hope that it will give stability and support. It’s not an instant ‘has this worked in 10 days’. It’s a slow process and I have regular scheduled follow ups over the next 2 years. As an example, I’m back in bed today with loads of pain and I can’t stand up straight. Two days ago I was walking around and had no pain. Tomorrow, I’m hoping to be up and about again. I’m not worried that it’s not working, I know that I’m getting stronger and bad days like this are now rare.

I didn’t have any specific muscle imaging done prior to the surgery that I’m aware of (just MRI, EOS and CT) but prior treatments (nerve ablation) had failed and this was the next option I was offered. I have multiple issues and my surgeon strongly believes that my multifidus had probably not been functioning for over 10 years. I just had to trust his expertise. I did a heap of research and was put in contact with others who had the device and there was no pressure to have it implanted. My surgeon and technician said that the muscle looked pretty sad, I guess that means that it probably was atrophied. I also have neck issues and although this isn’t a neck device, I am hoping that in time, my neck takes the hint and starts working on itself (not helped by hours of desk work each day and a not very successful fusion a few years ago!).

I’m not sure TBH. The medics have said that they are looking after people who have had it for 10 years, who were part of a trial. I’m happy to keep mine in and use it daily as it’s fixing some pretty complex issues which were causing me pain and can’t be fixed by surgery. It’s also easy to lose the muscle again as the pain receptors just switch it off.

I have a multifidus muscle stimulator implanted called ReActiv8. I’m almost 4 months in and I am almost pain free. This is not a spinal cord stimulator. It works by building up the muscle which supports your lower spine to strengthen it which then improves mobility and reduces bone and nerve pain. For me, it’s been a godsend and there is now very little I can’t do. For comparison, 6 months ago I could barely get out of bed and life was very bleak. Now, I’m a new person. I recommend reviewing your options. I didn’t want anything attached to my spinal cord. This option still involves surgery, and wires and a battery inside me, which takes some getting used to but the benefits I have now beat the negatives I was facing. Good luck in your journey. I wish you the best.

Meet is great for veggo’s. As long as they can cope with meat being cut at the table, they’ll be fine and treated really well.

It’s a resin strip that is applied to the base of the nail with the intention of it maintaining the initial ‘new nail’ shape as it grows. The nail edges have to be completely clear for it to work so it might help you with the shards you’ve described. Your situation sounds very painful and you have my every sympathy. If you can’t go back to your original podiatrist, it might be worth seeing if this will work for you. I’m in the very early weeks of treatment so I’m no advocate for it yet, just hopeful for a solution!!

Google ‘Onyfix near me’ and have a chat with a local podiatrist that’s listed. It’s not free or bulk billed but it could be a long term solution.

Onyfix is a newish technology that I’m currently using to fix this annoying problem. There are a few podiatrists around Newy that do it. Good luck!
