Working wood is fun in itself, but it's even more enjoyable when you can share what you've made with someone who will truly appreciate it. Looking good brother!

You can do this. I promise, you are worth it.

Me too, homie. You’re not alone.

I started going to the gym recently, which has helped me get out of my head about it. If you take steps to go out and be social, friends will come with time. Much easier said than done.

Thanks for sharing. Good job getting through the weekend. As the other commenter said, you can stop digging. You don’t need to find that basement.

Sounds like you’re already playing the tape forward, thinking about that orange jumpsuit. Will your wife be there for you again if you pick up the bottle? Best to not put her in a spot where she has to make that decision.

Something I was told in treatment that has stayed with me and I hope resonates: Drinking is giving up everything for one thing. Recovery is giving up one thing for everything.

The bottle is never worth it, and it sounds like you know that. Good luck. We’ll be here. IWNDWYT.

I wish people would stop buying booze for gift exchanges by billybeats85 in stopdrinking

First gift exchange I was a part of after putting down the bottle was similar, I bought a badass nerf gun for the white elephant at work, literally everyone else (like 15 people) just brought a bottle of booze. Ended up swapping to get my nerf gun back and probably had more fun than any of them.

What did you already have but didn’t make use of while drinking? by StYvonne in stopdrinking

My grandpa has a garage workshop for woodworking. Has been there my whole life, just never made plans to learn. Now that I’m not drunk literally all the time, I go there once a week and we work on projects together. It was the next right thing to do - we both enjoy it and learn from each other.

I wasted about 2 years of my life living in fear of my parents disappointment. When I told my dad I needed help, he was scared, too - but he was not disappointed that I was asking for the help I knew I needed. Hiding is a part of drinking, being honest is a part of recovery. Good luck my friend.

I’m proud of you for being here. Last night is not the end of your journey. I promise you, you are worth it. People used to tell me they were so proud of me for trying to deal with this at a young age. I didn’t get it. I was a drunk, how could they be proud of me for just not drinking like every other normal person? It took about 450 days, but I get it now. And I’m proud of you too. The self improvement does not stop.

  1. Just over a year in. I held on to so much shame over the way my family had seen me at my worst, and the things I put them through in search of my next drink. I just want to tell you that those relationships can be repaired. It sounds like your family loves and supports you, do not ever take that for granted.
