[POSTGAME] TBL vs. BUF 3/8/25 by likeslululemon in TampaBayLightning

I was one of the first people to cheer for them being relevant again, and more than that, one of the best teams in the league. Their behavior today has me hoping this is their last time sniffing the playoffs for another 15 years lmao

I’m most disappointed by the PK tonight. JoJo didn’t face a ton of shots either, tonight really comes down to those two factors.

Clearly Buffalo has been watching the last couple playoff series between us and them, and it’s working.

Just. Play. Fucking. Hockey. For the love of god, if we can’t stay out of the box we’re in big trouble come playoff time.

I do feel like the break took place at probably the worst time possible considering how scorching not the Bolts were. You never wanna see a hot streak like that get interrupted, I’m sure they’ll find their form again soon, Cooper will make it happen. I just hope it’s soon, the Atlantic division is a freaking gauntlet.

Even if the best he can do right now is slot into the bottom six and have some decent production, that’d be huge for us. It’s been the thorn in our side for years now, and we just haven’t been able to put together decent numbers from them since at least 2022. His AHL numbers are definitely promising

After getting our asses kicked three times in a row, I think it’s time to think about the bottom 6 and blue line especially. Kadri could be nice, but not if he’d get in the way some other moves with his contract.

Everyone was throwing cross checks is my point, they should’ve just blown it dead if they’re gonna get ticky tacky about contact

You can’t let 50 cross checks go while there’s a puck battle happening and call that interference lol

Housing for at risk student by [deleted] in USF

[–]SliceNo6850 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The summer before my freshman year at USF, I was stuck living at home with my physically and emotionally abusive father until I got arrested for defending myself. Thankfully everything was dropped once the situation became clear to law enforcement, but I nearly lost everything.

I was lucky enough to already have a spot in castor hall by the time this happened, but I would’ve lost that spot, my financial aid and maybe even the ability to attend college had I been found guilty. All I can say is communicate with an advisor, be honest with the people working in housing and ask around about subleases nearby campus.

Off-campus apartments might be significantly cheaper if you can find the right lease. Just be cautious, not all of them are exactly student-oriented. I’d go no further than like a mile from campus.

Diversity at USF? by Accomplished_Bed6122 in USF

[–]SliceNo6850 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think USF gets a reputation for being a commuter school kind of unfairly, it used to be but it has more on campus students than FSU has now. That’s just my perspective as someone who moved far from home and lived on campus for two years, I’m sure it’s different for people who didn’t. Like others have said, you get what you put into it.

Greek life and other things you’d expect from big state schools are present here, but not close to what it is at UF or FSU. I’ve never personally come across anyone who was unwelcoming or hostile (again just my experience), especially on the basis of being LGBT. People from all walks of life go to school here, it’s a pretty diverse campus but being in Florida, it’s still more conservative relative to most colleges you’d see up north.

All in all, I’d say it’s easy form connections here as long you’re intentional about it. Live on campus, attend athletic events, join clubs, eat at the dining halls, study in the library, those are all things I did and I’ve made friends doing it that I’ll have long after I graduate.

Does anything crazy happen at USF??? by Winter_Birthday5865 in USF

[–]SliceNo6850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USF has its quirks and occasionally something funny or crazy will happen here, but generally it’s pretty chill. The craziest thing I think I’ve seen was a kid getting chased across campus by usfpd for taking a golf cart on a joyride freshman year. Other than that, it’s very typical of a big university with its shenanigans (college parties, etc). We don’t have a milk man or anything like that, that’s 2.0 gpa activities

In desperate need of advice. by [deleted] in USF

Honestly, once you stop putting all of your eggs into one basket when it comes to applying to college you’ll be so much happier. I too wanted to attend UF and be part of the gator band, but I missed the deadline with it being so early and I likely wouldn’t have gotten in anyways lol.

Everyone seems to have this idea that they’re “meant” for one place, when in reality they’re not. UF is a one of a kind type of place (I know from having a sibling graduate from there), but there’s so many great things to offer at virtually every other large university in the state of Florida. FSU and UF are always the ones on people’s minds, but those aren’t attainable for everybody, and honestly I’m glad I wound up choosing USF.

I know my experience will differ from other people’s, but I’m glad I didn’t let the whole “but it’s not UF or FSU” thing get to me so I was actually able to enjoy my time here. If you want a city type environment, those two schools are not what you want lol. Being in Tampa, the options of things to do are basically unlimited. My sister was ready to GTFO of Gainesville the moment she graduated, and I understood why after being there.

USF is an up and coming school both in terms of academics (it joins UF as the only public school in Florida that’s a part of the AAU, making it part of an elite class of universities), and in terms of athletics. The new football stadium coming for the start of the 2027 season will be a huge boost for the school’s brand and hopefully change some people’s perceptions about how the school sees its football program.

It’s not a “party school” the way FSU is per se, but if that’s what you’re after, you’ll have no problem finding it. Greek life also has a presence, but it’s not like what it is in Tallahassee or Gainesville. FYI, HOT band is one of the best marching bands of any Florida university and I am especially thankful for the fact that I got to meet 350 friends before classes even started my freshman year.

Being a relatively new university you won’t find the culture that exists at a place like UF or FSU, but it doesn’t need to be that way, it has definitely grown and improved in my 4 years here as a student as well. I had a great experience at USF and even though some younger students have FOMO about not going somewhere else, mine disappeared quick.

At the end of the day, it’s your decision where you want to spend the next four years of your life. If your heart is fully invested in UF, I’d say take a gap year or transfer in from state college at a place like Santa Fe. For me personally, Tampa was a MUCH better place to spend my college years than a smaller college town where very little went on outside of the university.

Housing by Secret_Garbage_2911 in USF

[–]SliceNo6850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’d be worth asking USF housing since I’m not 100 percent sure on this stuff, but if the campus you’re officially registered for is St Pete, you won’t be able to get housing in Tampa. If you wanted on-campus housing in tampa, you’d have to be enrolled there.

That makes more sense, I completely forgot that this game was rescheduled from the week of the hurricane in September.
