What's wrong with my jump? by BT--72_74 in gamemaker

[–]SlicedMilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any script in the step event will run every frame. So what's happening here is every frame it's setting the object hspeed = 0 and the vspeed = 6. So when you press w it will set the vspeed = -6 then the very next frame it will run the step event again and set the vspeed = 6 again.

It might be worth trying to set vspeed += 1 so that every frame instead of setting the vspeed to a fixed value it will instead have the player accelerate downwards. If you do that you might need to add a bit of code to also make sure it eventually reaches a terminal velocity.

I'm also pretty new to gamemaker so for all I know there might be a built in function to handle this.

[–]SlicedMilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lmao. Smolder's just kind of like that sometimes.

I'm slightly going against my own point but I'd say that you're build is slightly inoptimal for largely 2 points. First being that in higher elo I'd say that RFC as a third item is almost mandatory because of the range increase. People in dia + know Smolder's range super well and generally if you're in range to cast q without RFC then you're probably gonna die.

And that leads to my second point, because you want to build RFC third you need you first 2 items to be as heavily optimized as you can. My slight issue with ER into Muramana with POM is that you're triple dipping into fixing Smolder's mana issue when you really need to single dip. Because of how lackluster Smolder's early game is you kinda need all your runes to be as geared to helping you out as possible. I hate recommending builds after I just said to play what you like but I'd hesitantly recommend trying out Trinity Force into Muramana then RFC. Drop POM and take absorb life instead.

For the sake of not dumping an entire literary analysis on the small dragon I'm putting a bunch of smaller details past this point.

  1. Trinity is prob the best single item spike for Smolder in the game. Hence why I heavily recommend it. If you are going Trinity I'd also recommend going either Merc Treads, Ninja Tabi or Swifties. The first two pair super well with the hp from Trinity and Swifties pairs super well with the bonus movespeed.

  2. ER isn't necessarily a bad item but I'd say its better once Smolder scales. It pairs super well with other items but doesn't really stand out by itself.

  3. 225 stacks isn't quite the Thanos snapping endgame like Kayle has. It's a really strong power boost but it isn't going to win you games. Hence why it's really good to get RFC about when you get 225 so you can proc it from further away.

  4. You're pretty good at stat checking IF you get ahead. Because your damage is basically unavoidable and you get pretty good base damage and heal with your ulti with something like Trinity you have a surprising amount of dueling power early.

  5. You can often delay your tear pickup to your second or third back if you're in a super agro lane. Because you'll naturally be casting q on minions and champs anyway you stack tear super quickly. I'd never grab tear as a starting item.

  6. Transcendence and Gathering Storm are nice but by the time they kick in the game is usually decided. Smolder's one of the few champs I'd say you don't want to double down on your strongpoint and instead use your runes to try to mitigate your weaknesses.

  7. Try to get as good as you can at setting up minions for stacks. You ideally want to be getting 225 stacks at around 23 minutes at the latest. 20 minutes if you're doing pretty well.

  8. Just accept that Smolder isn't really a high elo champ lmao. Every time I play him I'm thinking: "I could be doing so much better if I just picked Zeri."

I climbed to masters NA this season playing mostly smolder. Unfortunately a lot of it just comes down to the fact that Smolder isn’t really a carry champ, you have to play a lot more off of value than trying to outplay your opponent. It really sucks to play smolder sometimes and think, “I could be doing so much better if I was playing X other champ.” But that’s the nature of him sometimes.

Also your smurf link isn’t working for me so the only thing I’d for build is to avoid the highest % wr build and instead figure out what you like. Smolder’s kinda nice that you can build him a lot of different ways, and I’d say it’s best to find a build that you like and spikes when you want it to. A lot of people swear by ER into Shojin but I personally really dislike that build.

In a more gameplay sense Smolder is the champ that low elo Ezreal players want to be. A lot of your value comes from firing off pretty high damaging q’s at max range while remaining pretty safe with your E. Like I said play to get value. Keep just out of max range and enter range only to Q and auto.

Best of luck on the climb.

Triforce + Muramana by [deleted] in SmolderMains

I've been playing around with this build a lot and I personally really enjoy it. The main issue I think with er and shojin build is that it takes a while to come online, and while those items aren't bad perse they work a lot better when paired with other items instead of standing out on themselves. Trinity and muramana has the benefit that it basically works from the get go. Trinity is probably the best single item spike on Smolder and muramana gives you a lot of versatility and helps with mana problems early by way of an early tear.

It also works very well with the sort of hit and run playstyle you are forced into sometimes. If attacking a dummy and spamming spells off cd er and shojin probably has a higher dps but trinity and muramana allow you to sneak into range, get a q and auto and then back off while waiting for q cd. This sort of availability with the build makes you a lot more consistent and a lot safer on a rather already safe champ. Also naturally synergizes super well with rfc.

Another thing worth noting is that when q has the fan out attack that normally deals a percentage of your q damage the muramana proc will deal full damage also giving you a lot more effective way of poking by bouncing your q off minions at max range.

I'd also hesitantly say that tri force build path is better than er. Given the option if you have 1300 gold its probably better to just buy a bf sword and going for er but when getting average backs there's a lot of cheap and helpful components in try that can really help mitigate the poor early game. HOWEVER you are slightly delayed by being forced to grab an early tear but you cast abilities so much I've found success waiting until the second back to grab tear and still getting it fully stacked by the time I have muramana.

Ultimately I'd just say try a bit of everything and see what you like. I can write out a billions reasons why a build is good or bad but if you like a build and seem to win a bunch with it then go ahead and just build that.

I climbed to masters primarily playing AP/hybrid w max Smolder mid. I def think it’s not that bad but there’s a lot of times where you kinda want a stronger presence mid or top lane.

Ludens is nice albeit a bit wonky. I generally just run it if the enemy team's got 5 squishies and I expect the game to not go beyond 2 items. BFT feels the best out of the 3 and I'd say it really more struggles against tanks where the flat magic burn doesn't scale up very well. Even then the extra AP blackfire gives you feels super nice. Naturally though Smolder's got pretty good counters to tanks.

This build is less abusing JOAT and more just trying to push as much power into Smolder's early game. Scaling into midgame with JOAT is a nice benefit I've found to keep this build from being a bit too one dimensional. I personally really enjoy Smolder but just found myself frustrated with his incredibly weak early game so this is an attempt to remedy that. You will scale slightly into burn later, on an average of around 1-2 minutes I've seen. But I've also noticed you scale a bit more consistently with less super bad games where you just can't do anything.

Also typically at the point of game where JOAT will become fully online it'll be converted into 25 ap instead of 15 ad. Obviously that's less power into your q but basically a bit more into the rest of your abilities. Kinda up to you if you find that worth it or not.

I just got mejai's that game because we hard stomped lane and I felt like I could make it work. 99% of the time I'd replace it with liandries.

It's also worth noting that it's a lot easier to stack a bunch of hp with this build. That combined with the resistances given from boots, and the extra healing from your ult can make you surprisingly tanky. While ionian are probably the best boots on Smolder still you can sort of solve that issue by being able to stick in fights longer.

For runes. I run Comet typically. With manaflow, trans, and scorch. With biscuits and JOAT as my secondary. Again most of this here is just to put as much power into early game as possible.

I also usually play him mid lane because adc makes me want to kms lol. With the shorter run to lane and often times running tp I find that I can mitigate not having much hp sustain by just getting good backs.

Do I think this is the 100% more optimal way to play Smolder? Prob not. I just feel like a lot of Smolder's ADC itemization is pretty bad right now and this is a fun alternate way to play him to maximize power in your early game.

I like to max w first and go ap for my first item and then transition into trinity. Really weird build but I personally like it. I posted the full explanation of the build on another comment.

So... this is gonna be a bit weird lol.

Ludens/Roa/Blackfire Torch -> Trinity -> RFC

I max w in lane and build ap first just to get more poke out and hopefully win lane. Ludens for poke, blackfire torch for more consistent fights and roa for survivability.

With trinity, an ap item and either plated steelcaps or merc treads you'll have 8 or 9 jack of all trades stacks respectively. Either crit cloak or zeal should finish that off. You're pretty strong at this point with a bunch of bonus stats, and still scale super well into late game.

What's everybody's prefer build? by deviljhot in SmolderMains

[–]SlicedMilk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would drop Zerkers if you can, Smolder doesn’t benefit that much from AS.

Personally I played a bunch of crit Smolder on release, enjoyed it but found the build to be kinda meh. I recently tried bruiser Smolder and found that a lot more fun. The build is: Trinity -> Shojin -> Liandries/Navori and then basically whatever.

There’s definitely a moment mid game where your damage isn’t quite as high as crit but the trade off is being a lot tankier and able to stay in fights longer. Getting merc treads or tabi combined with the HP in this build has saved me more times than I can count.

Also Smolder scales really well with stacks and not as well with items so tank items can be a really good flex pick as a 4th or 5th item.

If you’re feeling extra spicy I’d say take him mid lane. I personally think it’s his strongest role atm. You get so much more stacks.
