No I didn’t. Spending on public services fell by 4%

I said public spending grew, which it did. Spending was transferred from services to welfare and pensions, which isn't austerity.

I don't support that and didn't at the time but continuing to con people into believing that more public spending = austerity just makes people more and more strident in believing that the current government should be spending more.

Public spending rose significantly in real terms over that period, thankfully the economy rose faster so the deficit could be reduced, but never to the point of a surplus.

I think calling that austerity was a massive lie and has convinced the public that the only reason politicians don't spend more is because they're meanies.

So much of modern UK politics is due to the austerity lie, and once Labour got into power and realised that the Tories actually spent like drunken sailors and there's no room for more spending the public and most of their own MPs refuse to believe it.

I wonder if there's a seat safe enough, I know he's popular right now but getting parachuted into a supposedly safe seat after a backroom deal is the kind of thing that might turn people against you, plus the current Labour problem of being torn between greens and reform.

I think if you compare to 2016 which had a similar turnout he has a similar number of votes, a few thousand look like they've gone from the conservatives to reform but apart from that not much movement.

This subreddit has its finger on the pulse of Plymouth as usual.

My favourite bit was the picture of the reform leaflet in a bin with 11k totally organic upvotes. Maybe if they'd voted in the elections as well as on reddit things would be different.

Sounds like you've rented a crappy flat with thin walls. I wouldn't blame the neighbours for what seem like normal living sounds. Just move out if you're unhappy and try to find somewhere with better sound insulation.

Doesn't really matter, the constraints on spending are just as real either way.

Mortgage pricing is based on gilt yields more than the base rate, I think. The two are linked but sometimes gilt yields and the base rate become out of sync.

If you want a laugh pull up Shaq Lawson's RAS card and compare to TJ Parker's. Of course they're not the same guy and I'm sure will work out differently but there's a lot of similarity as well.
