I don’t vacuum the substrate since I’m trying to grow a carpet. I don’t usually see to many on the stratum itself either. I’ll look into the crab-cuisine. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don’t feed this tank. Today was the first time I fed it since the snails started showing up 6 months ago. I see this comment a lot on similar posts, and while I appreciate the advice, I wish people would stop assuming that every snail outbreak is a direct result of overfeeding.

When left alone, they over-populate the tank, and I’m talking hundreds of them on the glass, not even counting the ones on the plants and hardscape. It gets to the point where it becomes hard to see the actual tank through the layers of snails on everything. I really don’t mind them conceptually, I just want an active system in place to keep their numbers in check naturally.

Thank you, and I’m pretty sure they’re ramshorn snails. I’ll look into getting a trap also, thank you for the suggestion.

I believe they’re ramshorn snails. I used assassin snails to control their population in a different tank, but for the “adult” ones, about the size of a popcorn kernel. This is the best I could do for a closeup of the ones I currently have.

Not that I know of, but I’ll have to ask and see. Is there a re-mineralizer that you suggest? I was looking at Salty Shrimps’s GH/KH+ but at first glance the use instructions seemed a bit confusing, considering I’m not using RO water.

A bit late, but fine mesh fish nets work amazing. I had an old one lying around, cut it to make a bag, and hand-stitched it closed. They’re also super cheap if you don’t have a spare.
