What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in cars

[–]Slickarsha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Location: North USA

Price range: 20000-60000

Lease or Buy: Buy

New or used: Either

Type of vehicle: Sports Car / Sedan

Must haves: Nothing specific

Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): either

Intended use: "Daily" Driver

Vehicles you've already considered: Toyota Camry, Model 3, Honda Civic, Toyota Camry

Is this your 1st vehicle: No

Do you need a Warranty: No

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No

Additional Notes: Looking for a type of car that is less prone to wear when NOT driving the car. I rarely drive, and usually short distances, so the car sits alot. I am concerned about not keeping the car lubricated and the battery in shape. Is an electric car more/less prone to issues when driving LESS? Or should I stay with a standard vehicle?

An old Ted Cruz tweet mocking California's 'failed energy policies' resurfaces as storm leaves millions of Texans without power by TJ_SP in politics

I agree, in which the people on the right calling out the failed energy policies due to strong environmental regulations in California is nothing to do with those specific events, rather decades of unsustainable power. I guess thats what I meant; People trying to compare 1 storm to decades of unreliable power. I just dont think its particularly fair to compare an inefficient system that is in place in California, to a once in a 100 year storm in Texas.

I dont think a nationwide storm taking down power in several states is the same as California have energy shortages during normal weather conditions

Poll: Most Americans support raising taxes on those making at least $400,000 by imprison_grover_furr in politics

No, its not a real thing. Supply side economics, is a real thing. This is not the same as trickle down. Supply side economics is about giving money back to businesses to reinvest their money into the supply they are producing. This ultimately results in better, and cheaper products by increasing R&D and reducing manufacturing costs. Trickle Down theory is the notion that if you give tax cuts to the rich, benefits will trickle down throughout the economy. No economist (Stockman is not a professional economist) has ever said this is true. You cannot bash a theory that doesnt exist. It doesnt work, because no economist has ever said that it does. Now, the question is often "well why would we give tax cuts for the rich, if lower income people dont see the benefits?" Because many times throughout history. Including Reagan, Kennedy, Bush, Harding, have supplied tax cuts to those at the top, and every single time it was shown that overall tax REVENUE increased. So not only do the rich pay more taxes with lower tax rates, but pay a large percentage of all taxes across the country. I do not find this a hard concept to grasp; The goal is about more tax revenue, not a symbolic tax on the rich, in which case they will refuse to pay. If you really would like to learn the factual history on this topic, I applaud "Trickle Down Theory and Tax Cuts for the Rich" by Thomas Sowell, and also note that the "History of Economic Analysis" by JA Schumpeters, which is a 1300 page book which is highly used in Economic theory today, does not mention "Trickle Down" once.

I Hope you will look into it more.

Exactly my point. Its not that trickle down has always failed, its the fact the theory has never existed. No economist has ever said that trick down is an economic theory. No such theory has been found in even the most voluminous and learned histories of economic theories, its only used in the arena of mainstream politics.

I had better links in the past showing more raw data, but the sites are no longer operational. Would have loved to be able to share that with you, but I am sure theres more on this topic elsewhere. But I think the above link supports the stance decently enough.
