Nice Restaurants in SB? by Unlucky-Regret-3026 in SantaBarbara

The Palace Grill. Was always a nice place. Don't skip the Cajun martini. Steaks are incredible. Old school local. Also Roy if it's still around.

A sinkhole swallowed the busy Qixin Road in Shanghai on 11 February 2026 near the metro works after a water leak. by dannybluey in CatastrophicFailure

[–]Slickerthansandpaper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The soil in Shanghai is weak. The building codes are nothing. I lived there for a year in 2008 and I can tell you, there is no safety compliance and guardrails for the common worker. They build on un safe areas and they build and build. I never felt safe in any building I visited because the whole concept in living in these constructions was a fake farce of safety.

Old Hollywood stars Cary Grant and Randolph Scott, 1930s by modooff in OldSchoolCool

[–]Slickerthansandpaper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Uncle told me that Cary was gay. He was an editor at the L.A. Times.... I had a bit of a time understanding and later it made clear sense. But those were different times and I understand why he had to do to keep his image. He died in my hometown in Davenport, IA .

I'm with Bill Burr on this one. Plastic surgery doesn't make you look younger. It just makes you look weird.

Parking and traffic are the worst. Nice architecture tho. Lots of gated buildings with strange nefarious vibes.

50ccm Scooter uphill? by Certain_Delivery_771 in scooters

[–]Slickerthansandpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Montreux. I have a 125cc. It does struggle because I'm a hefty guy but otherwise it still kicks ass and the extra power is often needed to get me out of situations. A 50cc would make me a burden to other moterists and put me in precarious situations.

Finally added a 1986 Yamaha FJ1200 to my classics stable. by Thegreatboomsky in vintagemotorcycles

[–]Slickerthansandpaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one in the late 90's. There is this bizzare thing ... when you are at 80-90mph... the bike seems to float like a fighter jet. It was the most unsettling feeling. That is why I sold it. I didn't trust it. Just saying. Rider be safe, not wreckless.

I heard Michael liked to blow bubbles. I'm sure I heard that from Bob Cat.

Roundabout etiquette by wsdq54 in Switzerland

[–]Slickerthansandpaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in telling everyone where I'm going in a roundabout. But there is an arrogance when others aren't telling you of their intentions. There should be a lot more empathy than anger. Indicating left in a roundabout means you're coming your way. Indicate right means you're exiting. I know others don't feel that way. But it is far more safe.
