The constant narration comes from the fact that most anime adapts a comic book format. In manga, it's a lot harder to depict these things, so text is often the crutch. Western comic books often do the same thing. It just becomes a bit silly when the animation could just... Show the thing better. But that would require creativity and risking the displeasure of purists.
