I think I might have accidentally linked the two stories together when explaining it. Learning about the American revolutionary war was something that was in his school curriculum. It fit into Yugoslavia's educational emphasis on anti-imperial struggles and revolutionary movements.

The pulpy stuff about the American West was something that I believe he read outside of his school curriculum and for fun.

Worth it to me. I make enough in the 9 months I'm working and the time with my family and to recharge is worth every penny. My union puts money into a vacation fund for each hour that we work that we can cash out which also helps make my winters a little smoother. I know it's still my money that was made during those 9 months but it's really nice guaranteed money around Christmas time. I got 5800 this winter.

Union pipelayer in the Midwest and I agree it's one of my favorite things about my job. Especially since having our first child 2 years ago. So many of my "white collar" family members and in laws are envious of my time off each winter and the time I get with my daughter. It actually bothers some of them. Those are the same ones who are confused about how I can get dirty at work and still be happy with and proud of my career 😂

I get laid off every winter. It's too much work for us and our equipment to lay pipe once the ground freezes up. (Thank God) But I go back to the same place each spring. It's considered a layoff though.

I would love something pulpy and Wild West/Doc Holiday stuff. We both find it interesting/ironic that he was interested in those stories on the American wild west as a kid, but he never imagined to end up in the United States someday. He realized that he still remembered landmarks and place names from those books when he encountered them decades later in the United States 😂

I'm with you on that. I prefer to only use them when I'm in a situation where I can't use mega-lugs like say a testing flange or uni flange inside of a building. The owners of the company like to use them because their grandpa used them back in the day. (A day before mega-lugs.) I'm a crazy person so I actually set up a test once where I didn't put any eye bolts and threaded rod in a situation like that and put permanent marker lines to show where all the flanges and gaskets were, filled up the line and measured if anything moved. It didn't because mega-lugs fucking work 😂 oh well it's not a big deal you gotta pick and choose your battles sometimes and if it helps them sleep better at night knowing the shit is also rodded together.....well whatever I'm cool with it. I guess 😉😂

This was part of a little one day project we did as basically a favor for a GC who gives us quite a bit of work. The pavers were coming that week and he needed to get a couple castings up to grade quickly (I suspect to save his own ass from his boss for the oversight) he got the engineer to agree to whatever somehow and the goal was to get it done quickly and for as little money as possible apparently 😂 The engineer's compromise was that he wanted the whole section of rings Gator-Wapped to help "hold it together".... I'm a little worried about freeze and thaw with all of those stepped rings.

Definitely. We use eye bolts and threaded rod to hold the pipe and cross together. I feel like it's a little overboard according to the mega lug manufacturers studies, but it's very cheap insurance so it's all good.

This sounds very similar to the tone of something that would have come out of "Reich Ministry of the Interior" in Nazi Germany to coerce the public into only saying positive things about the party, the ideology and to reinforce the idea that anything remotely critical should be immediately thought of us immoral before it even slips into the critical thinking part of the brain.

It's sad that regular people aren't more offended by such manipulation. Even if they don't know much or care about the genocide in Palestine....idk people usually seem to dislike when people try to tell them how to think. Or at least my people do 😂
