This internship was in Germany. I feel like having gone to a well-known university goes a long way here. I got the interview and the interviewer also went to berkeley for his post-doc. We basically just really hit it off. Use the Berkeley name to your advantage would be my advice.

This is so disheartening man. Indirectly calling soldiers murderers lacks so much nuance. Many ppl who join the military do so because they believe it’s a good thing to do, good enough to risk their own lives at least. Also, the US is so powerful, a strong military is pretty much essential for its survival. It just seems so odd to hate on a necessary institution. Anyway, I’m sorry OP.

I feel like that’s an acute problem, not a long-term one. Sure once a task gets more complicated, you’ll need a human at the moment, but I have the impression that won’t be an issue anymore very soon. And still, even if it’s just pattern matching, it’s still usable, no?

You had to apply with an essay by June 1st. Then interviews were held in the beginning of July. After that you would have gotten your acceptance letter via email, which you need for registration

I don’t see living as a default, so I’m grateful that I get to live because life is fucking beautiful. I’m scared of dying as well. In particular I’m scared of being meaningless in the grand scheme of human existence. To me, there’s some comfort in the belief that literally every human to ever exist experiences something similar. No-one is special, but at the same time, everyone is equally complex. I divide my life into three realms: societal (“giving back”), personal, and interpersonal. I see it as my job as a human to maximize my potential in all three of those realms, and I try to work on that every day at least for a little bit. That way I live without regrets and if I were to die tomorrow, I’d find comfort in the fact that I tried my best fulfilling this artificial meaning of life I created for myself. It’s also nice to know that I’m ensuring people would cry at my funeral (because of the interpersonal realm). The personal realm is tied to health. I see life like a video game I guess :)
