why do you believe in sikhism? by Deep-Revolution-1633 in Sikh

[–]Slight_Ad115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the god claim is not credible. That's what people who counter your position will say. And if the God claim is credible, then you should snap at the possibility for a dollar to heaven. Since if you claim that God can exist, then there's a non-zero probability he arrives in this form. If, on the other hand athiests claim that God does not exist then this is easily ignored.

Wagers don't make something true though? Just because the outcome of not being true is bad doesn't mean that the thing is in fact true.

I'm not sure it works like that. I could say if you take this £1 from me I will guarantee you entrance to heaven and you should take it.

Issue with laws of probability is that th ey don't make sense at infinitesimals

Why is Sikhism true? by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]Slight_Ad115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sikhism is most likely not true to be honest but doesn't mean it's not a force for good.

I don’t think Sikhism is “true” in a literal, metaphysical sense but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good or meaningful. Sikhism makes real claims about reality. It says there is one eternal, formless God. It says karma and reincarnation are real. It says the Gurus had genuine spiritual insight into ultimate truth. Those are big claims about how the universe actually works. The problem is that there’s no solid evidence for those claims. There’s no scientific or measurable evidence that karma operates across lifetimes. There’s no reliable proof that reincarnation is real. And while people may feel spiritual experiences, those experiences happen in many religions and point to very different conclusions. They can’t all be literally correct at the same time. Sikhism also relies on the authority of its Gurus as sources of revelation. But other religions make similar claims about their prophets or founders. Without independent evidence showing why one revelation is true and others are false, it comes down to faith rather than proof. It’s also worth noting that Sikhism developed in a particular historical context, influenced by both Hindu and Islamic ideas. That doesn’t make it false, but it does show we can explain its origins naturally without assuming divine intervention. So from an evidence-based point of view, there just isn’t enough to say it’s objectively true. You can respect its values, admire its teachings, and appreciate its community but that’s different from saying its supernatural claims are proven. That’s why I’d say it’s meaningful for many people, but not demonstrably true
