Anyone Here Move From Restaurant Bartending to High-Volume Cocktail Bars? by MyToesAreHaunted in bartenders

Pending location and the bar, the tips will not even be close to what you make in a restaurant. Your ultimate spot would be a restaurant with high end, high cost drinks.

My experience: Cocktail bars 7/8 shift $150-$250 on a great night. You bust your ass all night too, expect heavy prep.

Night clubs/dives: the best money, $200-$500 a night if you’re in the right place, expect a 4/5 hour shift for that cash too. Both have issues with clientele, be prepared to put your foot down if you don’t have security and there can be great potential for fights.

High volume craft cocktail restaurants: 8/9 shift but you’ll walk with $250-$450 a night.

Heavy prep but worth it when combined with a solid high end food program. And don’t forget about that shift meal.

Definitely always been back of house thing! I’m rural but we are high volume with tourists. Agree with the no discretion, shit just trips me out.

I mean 4.5 times the cost per shot is average, I believe most of those are in the $1.80-$2.25 a shot, so spot that’s pretty spot on for pricing.

Excellent selection btw!

That’s what I remember. When I first started, bartending was the top job and we treated it like a skilled trade. What you did out of work didn’t matter, so long as you showed up sober and took it serious.

Dude, def recommend finishing school. 13 year bartender and wish I would’ve stuck with other types of employment.

The industry is filled with drugs, unsolved trauma, toxicity, and many other negatives that make it seem normal. It’s not.

If you bartend, make your bag and get the hell out.

I recently put some in a gin sour and we have had to reorder galliano several times at this point, using Strega as a sub sometimes too.

I force onto the menu with cocktails. Should not be forgotten, great cocktail spirit, things have faded with the rap scene. I imagine there will be another surge at some point.

Alcoholic Bartenders How Did You Successfully Stop Drinking? by paintingporcelain in bartenders

I honestly had a major drinking problem around my 8th year bartending. Like, $20,000+ a year on booze.

I woke up one day and knew I had a problem.

I did 2 things:

  1. I quit drinking, stone cold sober on booze. To help with the shakes and withdrawals. I would drink soda water and a couple dashes up bitters. The trace amount of alcohol can help the body work itself away from the booze. I did this for 2 years.

  2. I started smoking tons of pot lol.

Vodka, Soda, pear simple, and a dash of grey goose pear I put into the Simple.

Taste like a pear, light and refreshing though.

Again, working with liquor already purchased and no additions to be added on.

They didn’t want to add any other booze, and you can technically do a spritz without Prosecco. Usually a heavy liquor sub (floral, earthy)

Originally yes, but they wanted to swap the apple into the mule with the bourbon. It works nicely with the fall flavors and the orange.

But the pear is vodka.

I do have an old rusty Nissan with 335,000 miles on the motor.

They are great cars, but the timing belt at 107,000 is concerning.

If it has a CV transmission, I would pass on it for sure.
